#2417Very hard to predict the total IMO. Venus was a little amazed in interviews and Twitter that she is playing a fourth match in a row. I still question her ability to be consistent. I also think her opponents have not been at their best this week. I think Bouchard is close to her level when she plays her best, so getting the plus odds makes sense to me. This could drag to three, this could be a straight forward smash for one of them - I think that part is hard to predict ... as is the winner of any WTA match.Comment -

Probably try to work out a write-up for one of the tourneys this week. Beijing looks more interesting with Djokovic and Nadal there, but have to look over the fields. Will likely concentrate on one and make some sparing plays in the other. Good luck.Comment -

#2435ATP Beijing
This has been Djokovic's stomping ground over the past four season. He won in 2012, 2010 & 2009. He skipped the event in 2011. This time though he has Nadal to contend with whereas that was not always the case on his winning the titles in two of those years. Ferrer & Berdych round out the top four seeds. Both also seem like candidates for early burnout due to lack of form in Ferrer's case and fatigue perhaps for Berdych from a long week in which he did not look altogether comfortable.
DJOKOVIC QUARTER
The top seed won't have an easy path straight to the semis with Wawrinka lingering as the 6th seed an a potential quarterfinal opponent. Opening against Rosol should feed him a routine win and then Verdasco or Devvarman in the 2nd. Wawrinka faces Seppi to open, not exactly a simple win if Stan isn't engaged from the get-go. Querrey and Youzhny face off in the other 1st round match in this quarter. Querrey has picked up some wins over the last six weeks or so, but still seems not quite right. Youzhny was okay, but not up to part on the indoor surface the last couple of weeks. Both made the quarters here last year. Wawrinka is the one to watch. His level of play should dictate whether Djokovic sails into the semis or is forced to do some major work before that stage. Querrey or Youzhny certainly could slip into the mix if Wawrinka flops, but that works out better for Djokovic.
FERRER QUARTER
It looks like a merciful end to the season for Ferrer who has not been a consistent factor in the non-Slams on this surface since Miami. Pospisil is his first-up. Temptation perhaps to fade, but Pospisil doesn't seem to measure up when facing someone who returns well. Still, if Ferrer is in C-mode ... an upset is possible. Gasquet leads the charge in the bottom of the quarter. He opens against Florian Mayer. Mayer can be tricky and his form is reasonably good. Gasquet was decent in Bangkok, but does not have a great track record in this Far East swing. Definite upset alert in Round 1 for the Frog. Tomic opens against Zhang who upset Gasquet here last year. Tomic will need to play at a high level to avoid falling to the local. Benneteau & Matosevic play in the other 1st rounder in this quarter. Winner getting Ferrer or Pospisil. This quarter looks like it could get a bit crazy with an upset or two.
BERDYCH QUARTER
Berdych is the 4th seed with Isner returning to the court on the top half of this quarter as the 8th seed. Berdych is afforded an easy opener against Andujar, so even with a little fatigue he should push through. That would set him up against Lu or Davydenko. Lu's big problem could be burnout. He won a Challenger a couple weeks ago and rolled right into last week's Bangkok even, playing three more matches. On top of that, he had to play qualis to get into the main draw here in Beijing. This is a little bit of a shaky spot I feel. Isner gets the local Di ** who has proven a decent player on the Challenger level on this surface. If Isner brings his thunder though, he should do the usual route of winning a tight one. Dimitrov plays Bautista-Agut in the other first round match. Dimitrov hasn't seen the court since losing in the 1st round of the US Open to Sousa, while Bautista-Agut ran through qualis into the main draw here. BA played moderately well on the indoor swing and will make things interesting. Upset alert here, but this is a spot where Dimitrov really needs to show his better skill set and should. But how many times have we said that? Berdych won in 2011 when Djokovic did not play here. His draw should afford him at least a shot to go to the semis.
NADAL QUARTER
Nadal enters the final stretch of the season with an absolute shot to finish #1. He's got a very nice draw in this quarter. He opens with Giraldo and then will see Kohlchreiber or Montanes. On top, Haas & Hewitt meet in the Geriatic opening first tournd. Haas is ripe here for a potential loss if Hewitt shows up ready to grind. Fognini meets Robredo in the other first round match. Robredo certainly a bit more trustworthy of late. Tough to see anyone unseating Nadal in this quarter if Rafa plays anywhere close to what he has for the last couple of months.
PREDICTIONS
This looks tailor-made for another Djokovic-Nadal showdown. The middle quarters will be more interesting prior to the quarters perhaps. Watch both Wawrinka & Gasquet over the next weeks. They are fighting for the final spot in the Tour Finals. Gasquet holds a very small lead as of now.

#2439Um, no. Would not use Tomic.
Haas to me is a guy who wears down as the season works on, especially after the USO. He looked wretched against Youzhny and has not played since then. I think Hewitt generally fights almost every match as if it were his last. Just think it's worth a shot.Last edited by EaglesPhan36; 09-29-13, 11:57 PM.Comment -

#2445I mean he won in the end, but it was not easy and definitely not the sort of guy you want trying to lock down a parlay. I'm still surprised he managed to win the 1st set yesterday, maybe more to do with nerves for Zhang than Tomic playing well.Comment -

#2450Tough call. Probably between those two, I might swing to Delpo-Baghdatis. Delpo has recovered from the wrist problem that hurt him at the USO reportedly - but he still hasn't played in over a month, so he could be a little slow out of the gate. Nishikori, I just don't trust what he's going to do. Pretty poor season and that match seems like it could go many different ways.Comment
