Well I stopped keeping $ in sites not long after (thanks US Gov). But Cascade was really not a "dodgy" site by most accounts, they were rated A or A- on SBR, one of the most touted books on here at the time which unfortunately went from A to F in record time. Fairly similar I guess to the BetIslands debacle, which I was fortunate enough to avoid.

No way to fully protect yourself of course - one amongst many reasons why I don't do this anymore! Just as you imply, if you are going to keep $ on any site, better of course the ones which are more reputable, but understand that it's never totally secure, don't have an amount in any site online that you can't afford to lose should things go bad.

Very painful, I feel for you. It's a risk reward trade off, I think the reward can definitely outweigh the risk if you spread your bankroll well enough and have robust processes in place to manage the other risks.

Have you used / do you use bet brokers at all? Would you say the same principle should apply to brokers? I feel like brokers are just as sketchy as the bookmakers if not more
