    Fees for dormant/inactive accounts?
So I went over a year without logging into my sportsbook.com account, where I had about $1200. When I discovered that my balance was zero, I contacted customer service. They pointed me to the house rules, which state that inactive accounts (i.e., accounts where no money bet is placed for are charged a $100 maintenance fee.

I've had an account there since 2007, but today is the first I've ever heard of this policy. OK, maybe I should have checked in on the account at some point, but I still think I'm getting screwed. The policy provides that management may restore the funds at its discretion, and I'd like to think they are smart enough to do that, but time will tell.

I know most people don't go a year or more without placing a bet, but this still infuriates me. Am I crazy on this?

      $100 per month (!)

Here is the relevant excerpt from the Sportsbook House Rules --

If no real money transaction has been recorded on an account for more than twelve (12) months it shall be determined to be 'dormant' and we shall lock the account for the member's protection. If requested by the member, the account will be unlocked, but the member will have to supply the correct answers to all security questions. The unlocking of an account must also be approved by the Management.

“Sportsbook.com has the right to charge a $100 monthly account management fee on all accounts where there has been no activity in the preceding 12 months. Players who wish to return to play with us are eligible to have any account management fee previously charged re-credited back to their account with Management's approval. Please note: for accounts located within a restricted region the monthly account management fee will be charged within 30 days of inactivity or the date of account. Additional Management fees may apply. ”

Was that rule in place when you signed up? If not (and even if it was) I would ask them to reinstate your balance. There's a good chance they will.

Wouldn't you have to be dormant for 2 years before your entire $1200 balance was eaten up according to those rules?

I wonder how many people die and nobody knows about their balance or how to get it.

I bet that rule has something to do with taking advantage of that.

I became a member here because of them. Beat them for 1700 50/100 at a time. They closed my account. I guess my win % was to high or ??. Took me 4 months to get a check. They did pay though.

fantastic - shouldn't have taken it in the 1st place. but I guess there has to be some sort of time frame of inactivity where it's reasonable to close the account - maybe 2 or 3 years. even then if the customer calls the funds should be put back anyways.

Sounds nuts but it DOES say they will re-credit the money doesn't it?

I've thought that too. I have balances in a few books......think I need to leave instructions somehow.
