computer help needed

I did a system restore yesterday to a week earlier. Now, I can't get windows to open. It says the program can't start because crypt32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem.

I tried going through mode and it won't work either. Anyone know what to do?

More than likely you accidentally deleted crypt32.dll

Go to the recycle bin and see if it's there.
If it is, report back to this thread and I'll tell you how to restore

Maybe your hard drive has failed, reinstall windows as your last resort and if that does not work go to walmart/bestbuy and pick up a Hard drive.

F8 should take you into Safe Mode, F2/F12 will take you into your BIOS which you can't really do anything but find out if your hard drive is even being detected by your PC. Here is a link I found that could help you http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findby...sing-error.htm

Still have your Windows cd? If so, boot from it, re-install it (don't do a format) and it'll re-install the Windows directory on the computer...

Take about 15-20 min tops, won't lose any of your documents, porn, etc. and windows will work correctly. Only thing you will have to do is run a system update after that to re-download all the updates that you've run since you've had the computer.

Another thing you could try is if you have your windows XP/7 CD, run that and there should be a repair option which will make sure your base files are intact and working correctly.

Last two post nailed it. If you have XP you may be able to do a repair install. If you have Vista/7 you can do sort of a repair install. If you are handy at taking hard drives out, you can put your HD in another system and copy the missing file over and see if that helps.

You can always put the hard drive in a working computer and copy the files over.

I can't find the disc. The only option, I think. I have is taking it to a shop for $112 so they could erase and reinstall.

Rob, I'd be willing to bet that your problems stem from the fact that in between now and the date your restore point was created, the KB2607712 Security Update was applied. Here's how I'd go about resolving the problem.

Go to this page and download the standalone file which applies the update:

It's small enough to fit on an old 1.44MB floppy disk. Procure such a disk and copy the KB2607712 executable onto it, or you could even burn it to a CD. Boot your computer in Safe Mode then run the file and voila, your crypt32.dll will have been replaced and all registry entries that were pointing to it will be repaired.

If you're unable to boot successfully into Safe Mode, go online and look for a copy of the Ultimate Boot CD and burn yourself a copy of that. It contains a program called PartedMagic which will allow you to back into your computer with limited functionality. Once it loads you'll be able to run the Security Update and all will be as it once was.

Ok, RS or anyone. I found the site. I have a blank cd-r memorix 52x 700mb/mo 80min cd that I would burn audio cd's with. Can anyone please let me know if this cd can be used to burn this and what I have to do next step by step? I promise when I could I will make it up to you points wise.

(Operating System, processor, presence of floppy, CD and DVD drives, and whether or not you can boot it from a USB flash drive) Once I read it I'll make a step-by-step for you tonight.
