...3 come to mind for me. Sure there will be some debate.
I'm excluding NHL. The easy choice would be the Gretzky trade. Still boggles my mind.
It's so far beyond reason that it's a different category. I think of it not so much as a "lopsided trade" as "How could he possibly make that trade?"
If Pocklington needed the $$ that badly, he should have just sold the team. Trading the top player in his prime is just bad business.
Brooklyn cleaned up sending KD to the Suns. Start there.

*Cowboys picked up Emmitt Smith + two key starters on the Super Bowl teams (Darren Woodson, Russell Maryland) + other players.
Good stuff, Jake. The Bagwell trade sticks out. Larry Anderson was a late-season acquisition, a lot to pay for a middle reliever.

LA Dodgers trading Pedro fo the Montreal Expos for Delino Deshields.
In hindsight that deal was the steal of the century.
What most fans don't know, or forgot was in 1990 the Red Sox were in a dog fight of a playoff race.
The only missing piece for the Sox was a dependable, reliable reliever.
Those Sox lineups of the late 1980's early 1990's were stacked.
Boston's third base depth was three deep.
Hall of Fame Wade Boggs was obviously the day in day out starter, then Jeff Bagwell, and Scott Cooper.
Cooper was also a highly rated rookie third baseman, not quite that of Bagwell, but Cooper was a touted prospect as well.
Boggs is a legend, neither one of them will get much of playing time at third.
They had tones of sticks to DH roo, Dwight Evan,s and Tom Brunansky, and Mike Greenwell, and Carlos Quintana, and on and on.
Sox needed that quality reliever, and make no mistake about it, Anderson had a rock solid seventeen year career, he was not a hamburger.
Houston needed a stick.
Boston didn't really want to let Bagwell go, they offered Cooper, Houston sad no, Bagwell for Anderson, straight up.
There was no room for Bagwell, he wasn't going to see 120 games anytime soon with Boggs there.
Scouts all knew Bagwell is a top notch prospect, they all knew he was going to be good, nobody knew THAT GOOD.
Anderson did what he was supposed to do, helped clinch the division, he pitched very well in 1990, and Bagwell went to the Hall of Fame, too which he would never go to backing up Wade Boggs and pinch hitting.
In many aspects, the Red Sox got a bad rap for making that trade.

Here's the one I had in mind for MLB. Some great 1-for-1 trades listed above. For multi-player trades, look at this one:
*Ted Simmons, Rollie Fingers and Pete Vuckovich to the Milwaukee Brewers for Sixto Lezcano, Lary Sorensen, Dave LaPoint and David Green at the 1980 Winter Meetings
...This one boggled my mind. I couldn't figure out how the Brewers pulled this one off. Herzog had a beef with Simmons, which made him expendable. The Brewers picked up the 1982 Cy Young winner and two future Hall of Famers.
Lezcano was pretty good in Milwaukee, didn't do much after departing. And the three other players had very ordinary careers. This trade struck me as lopsided, even if the three acquired players were veterans.

This might be one of the least lopsided trades the Nets have made in the last decade.
The trade for Harden might become another all timer if Houston can turn them into anything close to what the Celtics did with the Nets picks from the Garnett trade. If Boston ever wins a championship with Tatum and Brown, they should send Billy King a championship ring.
Here's my NBA answer:
On June 9, 1980, in a pre-draft trade, Celtics president Red Auerbach dealt the top overall pick and an additional first-round pick to the Warriors for Parish and the Warriors' first-round pick, the third overall. With that pick, the Celtics chose Kevin McHale. The Warriors then selected Joe Barry Carroll with the first pick.
Wow, what a trade. How did Red know?
Joe Barry Carroll was not good. Boston picks up Parish, who wasn't regarded in Gold St. Went to Boston and became a great pro.
To think that McHale was drafted 3rd after Carroll and Darrell Griffith. What a pick. So efficient, had the whole array of moves from the low block.
Bo knew football AND baseball.
Elway knew football, he did not know baseball.
Just ask the Yankees, that 'experiment' did not work out, did it?
Conversely, I still maintain Murray should have stayed on the baseball path.
He'll be out of the NFL in four years or less, just my opinion, due to injuries.
I'm not a vindicate fella, I don't wish death of injury on anybody, Murray has talent on loan from God and I wish him well.
Thing is those mobile type QB's, liike Cam, Jackson, Murray for instance style of play makes you wide open for career ending injuries.
Plus, it's not a trade secret, Murray's work ethic is lacking, and that's being kind.
Murray was crushing it at the highest NCAA kevel in the Big 10 at Oklahoma.
He had all the tools, double digit steal, and speed never slumps.
He hit for power, double digit home run totals, drove in boat loads of rins.
He hit for average, he got on base, and he played solid outfield defense.
The dude's slash line as a senior was amazing.
