However, with the Internet & social media, you are now constantly connected to information that is readily available & also constantly connected to your peers.

A kid can get bullied all day long 24/7. This is a new era problem. The home used to be a safe zone & a break from the world. Now all it is is physical shelter. There is no break mentally unless you have control/discipline in your life. And if that kid has bad parents on top of it then forget about it dude.

What could possibly go wrong with a troubled kid w/ a poisoned mind surfing the Internet trying to find purpose in his life?

Say what you want about religion, media, video games, social media, the internet in general. People have changed. Access to guns is too easy but probably not to blame here. No sign this guy would have been disqualified from ownership even with background checks which 97% of citizens support. Banning all firearms should not and will not ever be a reality in America. The harsh reality no one wants to hear is that there is no solution. Doesn't mean we can't do better but this is as much a part of society in America as gang violence is in the inner city.

Mentally stable people don't kill people indiscrimantly. If he killed his supervisor or the guy tat work hat he despised it is one thing. Killing people is wrong, killing people for no reason equates to lack of reason and mental weakness/illness.

The saddest thing is... with every mass shooting we become just slightly more desensitized to them. Right now it's hard for me to imagine a time when we will have less mass shootings. It seems like it's only going to get worse. If anyone has any hopeful or optimistic words I would love to hear it.

I work in the City Hall building next to the building where the shooter was. We were in lockdown for over an hour. For a while there were confusion over where the shooter was whether in my building or next door.

Guns are banned in these buildings. Still didn't prevent the shooter obviously from bringing his in. We may have to make changes to our audit offices as we also have a Fraud, Waste and Abuse division that sometimes will recommend firing some employees for wrongdoing.

Anyway, we had to mute our phones lest the shooter(s) hear alerts going off and bust/shoot the doors down. We would had been sitting ducks. But some had no way to protect or fight back today.

There's always a motive behind mass shootings, either being a victim of bullying, fired from your job and racism. Solving these issues can reduce mass shootings. Increasing the gun purchase age from 18 to 21 can also reduce mass shootings in schools.
