#9Every gym has a dude that's built like a truck from the waist up.
And then from the waist down... guy is a twig.
What motivates you??? Don't be that guy. Clearly noticeable and women laugh.Comment -

#10Thats the only reason im not squatting 500 right now because of bad knees. Today is legday for me. I guess if you like looking at women in the gym that could serve as motivation.Comment -

With proper form in gym most injury can be avoided. Take a good mix of supplements for sure, and lots of sleep, but at 39 I feel this is age where you either stay fit for life or you start to get lazy, which leads to other issuesComment -

#23If squats hurt your knees, it is likely you are squatting wrong. Do you squat to proper depth? Do your knees travel too far forward?

This isn’t necessarily directed at you, but every time someone says something like that I want to punch them in the face. He knows his body, nearly 40 years old and people think because they’re young and have good knees and back then everyone else must, so if it hirts to swuat they’re doing it wrong
Bot always the case boss, swuats do put Pressure on the knees and lumbar spine even when done correctlyComment -

If you're squatting, pressing, raising and extending on 5 max reps, you're penetrating Bo Jackson doing eliptical and tennis after that. (You may beeee??!!)
Sounds more like a hypertrophy/athletic workout (which is absouletely fine, all depends on your fitness goals).
I'm doing PHUL now wich is 1. Heavy upper 2. Heavy lower 3. Rest 4. Upper Hypertrophy 5. Lower Hypertrophy 6/7 Rest (or cardio/core/whatever).
Lower Hypertrophy is destorying me anymore with front squats, lunges, press, extensions (quad and hammy different machines), raises, etc.
It's growing muscles on my ass and legs I never knew I had lol.Comment -

#29More like 7. I like to be in shape, maintain some level of strength and the laides certaintly do enjoy it. There's a differene between being gym bro and lifting weights/strength training cardio.
I have shitty genes. I'd look like a blob. No one even thinkings I'm related to my brother/uncles/father. To each their own though.
When I see some fat ass at MCds or the sportsbook scarfing down chili dogs and milkshakes it makes me sick.Comment -

#30Some gym bros online were saying they did these the same day.
UMMM...penetrate all that. About blew my back out. I shifted my DL's to the 4th hyperropthy day. The rest is light work. I have a lifelong bad back so I can't do heavy DLS after 5x5 5 rep max squats.
I mean I can but it was dangerous so I'm good on that.Comment -

#33Or he has damage to his knees that no proper form will overcome

#35Fair enough. I guess I was reacting (wrongly) to the type of comment that squats will necessarily be bad on the knees. At the gym yesterday I saw squats so high my knees hurt sympathetically. Proper squatting isn't bad for knees generally, shitty squat form is. BTW, I'm late 40s and no problems at all from squat, but I try not to do anything crazy.
High squats are sometimes the best option for people with really tight hammys and low back. What happens when they go lower is they get tail tuck because the short muscles pull the lumbar spine under and this puts a ton of strain on l5-s1
hobestly though, to your point, maybe those guys shouldn’t be squatting. Lunges are a killer leg workout that are good for people that can’t do proper form squatsComment
