    Tips on Beginning Tennis
Hello. I always enjoy watching (and betting, lol) tennis but never played as sport. I like to start tennis. Any beginner advices?

And is it true starting with badminton makes tennis learning easier? Some people suggest to start with badminton, make some practice since you learn tennis faster. Which racket you suggest?

    Actually.....start with paddle tennis.

It is played on a tennis court....just within the service boxes. It develops eye-hand coordination, and makes the transition to tennis easier.

            Not really.

In fact, just hitting against a wall would bebetter for you than badminton.

The arm motion for both sports is different.

Learning how a ball bounces on tennis court and how to anticipate shots is important.

Anyone have any instructional online videos to suggest? I found great success with Better Basketball to elevate my hoop game, was looking for a Better Tennis like video? Was gonna demo 4 rackets from tennisexpress.com

Lettered in tennis four years in high school, was all-conference senior year. Wanted to play baseball, but couldn't hit at that level.

                - Get the grip down first, and learn how to switch from forehand to backhand grip.

                - Decide if you wanna be a one or two-handed backhand, and stick with it forever. Learn how to play behind the baseline, always staying behind it if possible, before you move onto other things.

                - Shots are a lot easier if your footwork is right.

                - Having a racket that's more handle-heavy is best to start with, especially for serving.

                - While practicing serving, your toss should actually end up with the ball being behind your head a bit, even though it's going to feel weird at first. Most beginners don't realize this.

                - Don't try to be a pro and spin your shots a whole lot at first. It will come naturally.

                - Badminton I don't know, but don't play racquetball anymore. It will absolutely screw your tennis game up.

Stan Smith still has the best form I've ever seen.

Don't waste your time with badminton or any other racquet sports. Best advice for a beginner is spend a bit of money and start by taking lessons to make sure your swing and form is correct, otherwise you will learn to hit the ball the wrong way and will never be any good.

Work on keeping your grips consistent (eastern backhand and probably western forehand). Try hitting the ball at the same height. Always remember to follow through..will put the topspin on the ball.

You need to go get some lessons, which you can usually get pretty cheap. Or find a mate that knows how to play - they don't need to be a pro; just good enough to teach you the basics.

Technique is crucial in tennis. If you develop bad habits when learning to swing, you'll be shitty forever.

This is not necessarily true but developing poor form will take awhile to correct. The best advice I could give you aside from starting lessons is going out with a friend and just starting to hit around. It will help your timing for when you are ready for lessons
