You used the example of trying to paint Biden as a demented geezer through misinformation as being unpatriotic. I'm arguing that I wouldn't personally use the adjective "unpatriotic" to describe people who knowingly propagate misinformation against Biden because they are brainwashed into believing that he is not the rightful President due to the mainstream election fraud claims. That belief is still present in the current day so any toxic smear campaign they participate in is influenced by that false belief, so we should not be so harsh on them and let it slide, like a racist Grandma in the family. The real problem is not misinformation but the adjectives KVB uses!You keep mentioning the election, I never mentioned the election.
This isn't about personally persuading anyone, I'm talking about things like cell biology and the oil and gas industry. Things that don't require "belief" but are rooted in a far more black and white environment.
And yes, if someone thinks mRNA alters a cell's DNA then yes, once told how a cell works, I do expect them to rethink what they are saying. I am not the teacher.
This is high school, and possibly Jr. High School cell biology here. So common and known, in fact, that it seems mobs with an agenda are keeping this information secret, lol.

There is more misinformation and disinformation, than there is real informaton in some of those SBR threads.
The Trump vs. Biden thread will have consecutive pages of memes and arguments and none of them will be rooted in truth and fact. They do not seek truth, they seek an agenda, and an argument.
These posters are all bad actors.
Do I expect to change pople's minds? No, of course not. I only provided corrected information and reasoning. Like I said, taking on the task of correcting the dis and mis info on the interwebs is daunting and impossible, and pointless.
It's sad that posters at SBR are so irresponsible with their information, memes, and posts that they acutally need a third party "fact/truth committee" to guide them through life.

I've noticed the only loud voices cryign for "free speech" in the private world are all actors who offer fake news and mis and disifnormation.
Bad actors everywhere and some internet users are just too susceptible and even too gullible to do much about it but believe.
When people don't realize there's a magic trick being performed in fornt of them, they'll belive any explanation.

The election fraud misbelief is one of the biggest mainstream "lies" that people believe and it is important to note as an example of how a large group of people can be persuaded to believe in misinformation. Some probably believe Biden lost but still propagate misinformation about him, others believe he won but are purposely doctoring video and photos to create misinformation, there's gotta be a distinction there.
Getting fooled by misinformation around mRNA vaccines is less surprising to me, maybe because I forgot a lot of the minor details of genetics from school. Who the hell remembers shit about nucleotides and mRNA? The mRNA vaccine is new, not sure if learning about introductory genetics is enough to debunk mRNA misinformation. It's not like people frequently talk about genetics in their everyday life, that is exactly the type of subject I could imagine people forgetting minor details about. I think having a high level understanding of genetics might not be enough to debunk, then again I haven't seen the exact instance of misinformation you reference with your biology comment. Maybe that is just my ignorance though.
How to judge people who believe in misinformation, maybe that is not a fruitful discussion. How do we understand them, how to combat misinformation, not sure.

You work in a profession (used to?) managing investments where you have to use a computer to interpret news and information and the reality of the world. You are also a scientifically curious person. The type of person you would think would be less susceptible to misinformation.

Overall a good post but painting the current President, or even candidates, as unfit for office and using bogus evidence to do so is not unique to Biden and the election lies.
It has happened for almost every President and candidate I can remember.
That is what I label as unpatriotic.
