SBR Poker Forum Mixer in Vegas for WSOP June 18-24 CHECK IN

A few of us chatted at The Bash about getting together for some poker during this years WSOP in Vegas and after talking with JakePeavy and a couple of others who want to do it I've booked flights to arrive Sunday 18th June and fly out Friday night 23rd. Jake's arriving on the Monday and staying all week. Others just doing 2 or 3 nights.

We are staying Downtown at The Plaza.

Plaza looks nice but if you prefer a bit fancier the Golden Nugget is right across the street and apparently has been refurbished in the last year or two and has a big shark tank on the roof you can water slide through, if you are into that sort of thing.

never stayed there before but they renovated the rooms a few years back and the reviews are pretty good. They also have some good restaurants there...I have heard really good things about OSCARS which also has a daily happy hour with half price drinks and appetizers. I don't plan on being in the room much so as long as it is CLEAN, I'm good with it for around $50/night and that is including the daily $18 resort fee. Personally, I prefer the vibe downtown to the strip and we will be walking distance from the golden nugget that will be running a summer tournament series during that time.

just an FYI but June 18th is Father's Day...I will be leaving The following morning or afternoon and will arrive Monday the 19th. I have 4 nights booked(Mon-Thurs) and will be leaving on Friday at some point unless there is a change of plans on my end.

After my first visit to Vegas it was obvious all the wannabe showoffs around here talk all sorts of rubbish about Vegas hotels. They are all cheap there for what we get and even the average ones are half the price and twice as good as what you find other places.

If Plaza does not make your balls tighten with self importance hard enough... then stay elsewhere.

I had been looking at doing a trip in July with Philly and possibly others. However this date may work as well. I guess I need to understand my work schedule a little more before I commit.

I've never stayed downtown, but would be willing to give it a try.

So are you Canadian's bringing your wives or leaving them at home. I can do either way. Just wondering what you guys were doing. Although, she may tell me to go alone if my intention is to be at the poker table or local brewery 16-20 hours a day. Plus she hates the heat.

Guys I'm not trying to rain on the parade but downtown Vegas poker is a shithole of high rake and low action reg leatherasses grinding player points for comps. Don't expect a lot of fish action or decent tourney fields especially during the series.

Some of the best cash games in the world are on the strip now plus much juicier tournament player pools.

Im in town the 4th-8th for the dealers choice and HORSE events, if I go deep in either I'll probably still be around and will have to swing through for this prestigious event

Hope you are wrong SharpA. Peavy made it sound like that location right at the entrance to Freemont street was a fun spot with a lot of stuff nearby and table games that are a bit fairer to the players downtown.

Whatever though. Several of us will have cars so we can get to the strip easy enough as well.

Sin and FunnyB already said they will be bringing their other halves. I doubt Beer is allowed to leave the house without his. And we know Donker only goes where his lady leads him. If DS comes I'd guess he will be a couple as well.

I am going to try to put in some serious poker time personally but honestly think 5 days of that is too much for me so chances are I'll be for up for a show or something like that if others are doing it as well.

Well Jake is right about the fun environment and generous table games that's for sure compared to the strip. I was writing from a pure poker angle as far as action. If you guys are looking to gamble it up downtown is a great spot.

Since you guys will have cars just download the bravo app and hunt down the best games when you're feeling like poker. 99% of the juiciest will be all the dead money at the Rio.

We will probably stay at the strip as my wife does not gamble( thanks God) but she only spend money at the shows and the last time she really enjoy the ones there.
I like to be where the fish are and the chip sng where I always did well, Ballies Flamingo MGM for the cash games.

Looked at The Rio but location seemed terrible for anything else so would want a car anyway I thought. Hopefully visitor parking will be easy there.

The Plaza is fine for what I need this trip which is nothing more than a clean bed to sleep in, a shower and a shitter. Others that want to come out can stay where they wish. The only places I'll be playing poker downtown are the golden nugget and maybe binions. Personally, I much prefer the vibe downtown and the proximity of all the casinos, to each their own. I'll have my car with me when I want to play on the strip or will just use Uber.

There are numerous casinos having poker tournament series so we will have a lot of options as far as tournaments and buyin levels.

who says everyone needs to spend 24/7 together? as long as we are all within a 10 mile radius there will be ample opportunities to meet up, gamble, eat etc etc

based on many comments in the thread, it doesn't sound like anyone else wants to stay downtown either, which is totally fine...I feel the same way about the strip for the most part.

to sum it up, it really doesn't matter whether people stay at the same venue or not..

We'll make a plan how/when to hook everyone up closer to the time no matter where anyone stays.

And I think Tatddy and TripleD sounded fine about being downtown with us. Would be better to be down there with us if you come. Might be a nice change and surprise you anyway ;-)

even if people decide to stay at say the mandalay bay which is on the far south side of the strip, that is only about 10 miles away from downtown, if that. We are going to be in a very concentrated area so it will be fairly easy to meet up when we want to...not too concerned about that. It is also going to be during the week so less traffic and crowds.

cool..i'll be playing the daily at the rio at least once...the one that usually gets around 1000 players and pays around 50k for 1st...I think the buyin for that is around $250.

My wife laughed at me when I asked her to go to Vegas in June. But she did give me permission to go on my own. So looks like I will be spending a lot of time playing poker and drinking beer.
