Suggestions for cleaning up a credit report
Whats the best way to do this? I know of a law firm called lexingtonlaw.com that presumes to be able to get items removed from your credit report. Does anyone have experience doing this?

i have a few settlements that are considered derogetory items that i'd like to have removed if at all possible, whats the best solution?

I was told to get store credit if you can, Best Buy whatever, and just buy shit and pay it all off.

My credit rating is under 600, do not take advice from me.

    gl guy.

Brock if you dispute said item, and give all the proper info, you can have the said item removed from all 3 credit bureaus...for example..http://www.chargeoff.net/experian-dispute.htm

hold tight, wait for SOL to expire.

you will have to deal with 3rd party collectors who will buy up this uncollectable junk debt though.

        or so I've heard.

thanks bmw, That approach seems to be difficult to get to work though, if you have items which are legit, why/how can you just get them removed by claiming "e.g. the account does not belong to you, the account is out of date, you always paid on time, etc."

Seems like a bit of a circle jerk

Anything a company will charge you to do, you can do yourself far easier.

Start by disputing all of negative the items with the credit bureaus directly. You can do this online at TransUnion, Equifax and Experian (you may have to write Experian still).

Even if the item is valid, if it's old enough they may take it off. They will respond in writing within a couple of week (30 days max).

              or so I've heard.
well with one exception, everything has been paid either directly, or through settlements. And if somethign is bought up by 3rd party collectrs, what authority/power do they have to collect at that point, harrasment being their biggest thing i assume.

                Basically it works like this:

A company can report any info it wants about you to the credit bureaus. Most will report monthly (good or bad) info to all 3. Some will just report to 2. Some weird creditors are more haphazard.

When you dispute something, the bureaus will investigate, if the company doesn't respond they may just take something off rather than pursue it further.

Anytime you settle something, tell them you will only pay if they agree to completely take the item off your credit report. Make them put it in writing.

If the 3rd party bought the debt, they can collect on it. Their harassment is often illegal. Tell anyone that calls you to only contact you in writing and if they still call, report them.

Brock it most certainly is... I personally have seen alot of people's credit reports over the years from being in the car business to home improvement sales...If I show them there credit most were always shocked to see 1 to 3 things on it they had no clue of? Once it's on there it's so hard to get off....Mostly I have heard after 7 years it gets automatically removed. But I heard alot of these so called credit removal services, are B.S. I would ask a service to show me Proof you helped a client. Then I will fork over my $500 or whatever it was they charged.

You will have to deal with greasy collectors working strictly on comish who are used to trying to collect Sears card debt from 1984 from people.

These guys are the bottom feeders.

Once SOL has expired all they can do is basically lie to you.

Read and understand the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Also, you can recover damages if you have creditors calling and they violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. For example, calls after 8pm are per se a violation... I think the damages are 1k, but this may be indexed...

let your dog spike have a 100k a year job and apply for amex. when they call up to confirm, just say spike is the worker of the month for 4 months in a row.
