Guy has ice in his veins, nobody else in baseball would go 9 and pitch a shutout in a game 5 or game 7 clincher.

Starts like this are what defines greatness. Not regular season stats, come on now.

Really? He was 10-2 to end the season and his game 2 start was on 3 days rest for the 1st time in his career.

He was 11-9 this season with a 3.45 ERA....geez...to end the season? it stretched back to June with a bunch of no decisions....anyone can spin stats to fit your argument

Not sure where they'll get the money to upgrade the offense...They're No. 2 highest payroll next to the Yanks at $172 Million...the Big 4 pitchers are around $70 Million...with Howard and Utley they're around $110 Million....they could see some challenges for sure

As the biggest Cards fan probably on this site, even for me it's tough to just say he's the 'best in baseball', especially given how our season has gone down. I would say he was the best in baseball tonight, for sure, and when he's ON, he can be the best player on the field.
The man can thrive in the post-season though, and as previously mentioned, if we had Wainwright... My god...

Is there another single photo that sums up tonights game any better? Carpenter never shows emotion, the guy is like a statue out there, seeing him show this kind of passion is inspiring...

There is zero debate here, Verlander is the best, it is really that simple.
