Thinking about putting a grand on Stanford -21 vs Duke. Im a college student and lost a 500 bet on South Carolina last weekend on the last play of the last drive for ECU. I dont understand how the line can be this low, and I feel like I need to get in while the gettins good and make back that $ I lost last week plus some. On the other hand, I dont want to throw away almost 1500 by week 2 of the season. This money is coming from my summer job and Im torn on whether or not to book this play. What do you "older, wiser" guys think?
Bad Idea?

#2Never chase loses is my advice. I would bet the same percentage of your bankroll each game, whatever that is.
Standford seems like a solid bet, but the line is set at 21 for a reason.Comment -

#4Lines down to -20 105. Does this seem fishy to anyone else? U of Richmond beat Duke at Duke last week and theyre D-1AA. Only thing that worries me is Stanfords trip out there.Comment -

#5I like the play, keep in mind Stanford is on the road and I expect Duke to put up some points. So always a chance of a meaningless late touchdown to cover late.
I don't like the chasing, if that's your only play of the weekend, maybe throw a hundy on it. Learn some patience it will serve you well. think of more as investing than gambling. Best of luck.Comment -

#14Bridge jump this game and enjoy it. You will get 10% of your losses back and won't suffer a stroke on some meaningless touchdown. If you can research any bad blood between the coaching staff or any bulletin board material then the spread will be covered.Comment -

#16Well boys.. This is it, I have booked it. As square as this play looks, I hope it cashes. Hopefully Im not like the rest of the guys here who post their "locks" or other plays. GL to yall this weekend. If Stanford can pull this out, along with my Gamecocks beating UGA (No wager on this unpredictable game) I will have one helluva Saturday evening.(CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO POST SCREENSHOT). <TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=1 width="90%"><TBODY><TR class=GameHeader><TD width="20%">6664323GameDate</TD><TD width="12%">User/Phone</TD><TD width="20%">Date Placed</TD><TD width="8%">Sport</TD><TD width="30%">Description</TD><TD width="10%">Risk/Win</TD></TR><TR class=TrGameOdd><TD align=middle>Ticket#:10639284

#21I remember last yr Alabama played Duke and it was around this number...needless to say Alabama put up like 70 against duke and covered the spread by the 1st qtr. Just have to be weary of Stanford traveling cross country and the line opened at 15.5 so right off the bat the bookmakers were giving Duke some respect, however the whole world is on Stanford so the line has been pushed to 20.5. I don't know though, there's not a lot of value here for me. Personally I think there are better games to bet on. I agree with everyone here though there is no reason to put $700 on this game and completely bury yourself in wk 2. You should just bet like $200 and see what happens then at least if you win you made money, your feeling good, step out on your next game.Comment -

#22Good advice.
I don't see anyone who got 15.5, 17 was the lowest I heard of but still didn't see it on a site. Either way when everyone is on a number and it moves a couple points, then retreats midweek with such a heavy percentage that's something to look out for. Hopefully those on the other side just see value and are wrong. We need a big public win this! At least I do!Comment -
