The most likely thing is charlie moves or finally kicks alan and jake out of his house.

Its bad for ratings to ever kill a character. If only watched about 4-5 series consistently over my life and every time a character got killed they moved or something. If they kill him off completely he can never make a guest appearance or come back in the future.
