#16STAY THIRSTY is stepping up to the plate for UNCLE MO.
Got the predigree, got a top NY Jock and if he gets into the starting gate and breaks clean ..who knows.
I used STAY THIRSTY, along with the four horses rated above him and the two horses rated below him in a seven horse exacta box....
I am still routing for MUCHO MACHO MAN...........that would be a wonderful exacta 2, 10...10, 2.
May the "Racing" Lord watch over these thoroughbreds and jockeys during the 143rd Belmont Stakes and give them a SAFE /INJURY FREE race.Comment -

#20Most races are composed of three groups of horses. The first are entered by competent owner/trainers who have evaluated the conditions and determined that their entrants have a real chance to win. The second are also entered by competent persons who are not trying to win, but are using the race to move the horse forward in condition for a later race. The third are entered by incompetent owner/trainers who don't really know what they are doing and are just hoping for the best. Big races, especially Triple Crown races have a fourth group. These are no chance horses entered by egomaniac owners, just for the supposed cachet of being able to say "I had a horse in the Derby (or Preakness or Belmont)". The operators of Churchill Downs have successfully (for the most part) eliminated this last group by mandating that entrants have total purse winnings of Graded Stakes in the top 20 of eligible horses. After the Derby, when reality sets in for most owner/trainers, the latter group swells to fill out the race. Horses from group two are absent and rarely have any from group three. This makes a race like the Belmont easier to handicap and increases the odds on those in group one. This year's Belmont has a total of 12 horses, 7 from group one and 5 from group four. The race by post position:
1, Master of Hounds - This lightly raced well bred son of the Mr. Prospector sire Kingmambo (stands for $300,000) is conditioned by leading European trainer Aiden O'Brien and piloted by top rider Garrett Gomez. His first start this year was in a $2,000,000 event in Dubai pitting many of Europe's prominent 3yos in which he finished a close second, beaten a nose. His second race was in the Ky Derby, where he was shuffled back in traffic and rallied in the stretch to finish a creditable 5th, beaten 5 lengths. It should be taken into consideration that the 12 furlongs of the Belmont is a distance rarely run here in the U.S, but is the norm for big races in Europe, so a case can be made that O'Brien was using the Derby as a prep for the Belmont and a later campaign on the Continent. This theory has substance, since Gomez is back on board. He would have the pick of field (except Animal Kingdom), so that's significant. He's 10/1 on the Morning Line and if he goes off at anything close to that price, it's like stealing money. My co-top choice.
2. Stay Thirsty - A classic example of a group four (see above) entrant. He's owned by a self described "street kid from Queens" who made a billion bucks developing Vitamin Water, and he loves the limelight. The horse has beaten maidens and a weak Gotham field in 7 races. You couldn't find him with a search warrant in the Derby, staggering in 12th. No chance.
3. Ruler on Ice - Another group four type whose earnings were not high enough to qualify him for the Derby. He's 2 for 6, his best effort being a second in the Tesio at Pimlico behind Concealed Identity (a bad 10th in the Preakness). No chance.
4. Santiva - A decent sixth in the Derby, he appears to be a cut below a top horse, but he tries hard and, with luck, could hit the board, even though winning would appear beyond his capabilities. Comparable in ability to Brilliant Speed and Mucho Macho Man.
5. Brilliant Speed - A disappointment in the Derby, he closed with his typical late run, but was too far back early to figure in the outcome. The Belmont distance should be right up his ally and he has some kind of chance. One of the contenders.
6. Nehro - Tipped all over the joint at Louisville, he finished a well beaten second to Animal Kingdom in a good effort. That was his third second in a row in Graded stakes, the classic definition of a "sucker horse". In fact, his only win was against maidens at Oaklawn. Obviously has talent and must be considered, but he seems to "wait for horses". Can't be left out of calculations.
7. Monzon - Sixth in the recent Peter Pan at Belmont, behind lightly regarded Prime Cut. Appears to be another group four entrant and connections obscure, trainer has only started 19 horses all year. No chance.
8. Prime Cut - An under the radar horse, has never raced in a Gr1 event, his best effort being a third in the aforementioned Peter Pan, Would have to show dramatic improvement to even be considered. No chance.
9. Animal Kingdom - The obvious choice in here, the easy Derby winner and closing Preakness second solidified his credentials in the latter race as no one shot wonder. Connections outstanding in Motion and Velasquez, only a decline in form could keep him from being one/two. Must be used in all combination wagers. The only question, has the lemon been squeezed dry, with three tough races in the five week span between Derby and Belmont?
10. Mucho Macho Man - In the group with Nehro, Brilliant Speed and Santiva as horses with a chance, but at a level below top quality. The rider change to Ramon Dominguez may help, as he is burning up Belmont (6 winners last Sunday). Unlikely winner, but can fill out combination bets.
11. Isn't He Perfect - He sure wasn't in the Preakness, checking in a well beaten ninth. Another group four entrant. No chance.
12. Shackleford - The surprise Preakness winner on the Bill Daley all the way will try to duplicate that effort in this marathon, a big ask. It can be done (think Bold Forbes and Cordero in 1976 going wire to wire), but this horse is no Bold Forbes and Castanon is no Cordero. He has everything going against him; he breaks from the outside, right in front of the cheering fans, he's a nervous type anyway, it's going to be hot and he'll wash out, and there is speed inside of him. If he can handle all that and still win, I'll take my hat off to him. If not, he probably won't be in the top three.
Conclusion. The race will probably be won by Animal Kingdom or Master of Hounds. Suggested wagers:
Exacta box, 1/9 Exacta wheels, 1 with 4/5/6/10, 9 with 4/5/6/10Comment -

#27Here's a few Blogs etc. talking about off track and who could benefit...bottom guys seems to think Santiva/Macho Man could be sitting in the catbird seat:
Louisville news and Southern Indiana news, Louisville sports and Kentucky sports, politics, entertainment and Kentucky Derby coverage from the Courier-Journal
Horses like Shackleford, Mucho Macho Man, and Santiva, figure to be the ones to benefit from the track condition the most. Shackleford is the controlling speed, and bred to like an off track. Dale Romans has to be tickled pink with the weather development. Meanwhile, Mucho Macho Man and Santiva might be two horses sitting in the cat-bird seat. They will be stalking from not to far off the lead, and be ready to pounce if Shackleford begins to show the first sign of weakness. This could be an especially strong position if one of the longer shots in the race decides to pressure Shackleford early.Comment -
