Do I owe anything to "black" people for slavery? I'm not sure. What I do know for sure is that the social engineering programs of the DemoCong and the passing of laws which made it profitable for manufacturers to ship jobs out of the urban centers destroyed many urban communities. Some of those communities are black. Do those of us who have decent jobs owe something to the people who now live in abject poverty because of the social engineering experiments of the DemoCong? I'm not sure about that either. I would like to see those crimes redressed somehow. It would not be difficult to pass laws making it more profitable for manufacturers to repatriate manufacturing jobs back to the urban centers than to keep them in 3rd world slave states like China. Sorry dude, you won't get me with the "his only way out was to rob someone" argument. I was homeless for a while and I worked night and day at a waste recycling plant (THE worst job in the world) until I got enough money to do better. It was hot, smelly, grimy, disgusting, backbreaking work but if you showed up everyday and worked hard and stayed as late as they needed you to you had a guaranteed job. Interesting. You attribute attitudes and belief systems to someone based on their skin color. Isn't that racism? I have known since I was about 5 that race is a manmade construct. My mother taught me that. I asked her one day why there were people of different colors. She said "God made people different colors for the same reason He made flowers of different colors, variety is the spice that life is made of". We were taught in, I think 3rd grade that there is only one race, the human race.

I don't use the word black unless I am talking to someone in a context where they have forced me to use it like in this discussion of the "black" community and the professional Negro Al Sharpton (his job seems to be being a black person).

Poverty in most parts of Africa is a direct result of the domination of the majority of the population by thugs, either "Official" thugs who are recognized by the UN or self appointed thugs who are called rebels. Texansfan and Shazer - if you really want to get scientific on the matter of race, there was an interesting study done at Penn State in 2005 that discovered white skin to be a genetic mutation - the "healthy albino." Going even deeper than that, there's another study that points out how Black people (mother and father of the same race) can give birth to albinos (traditionally known as white skin) while White people (mother and father of the same race) can't give birth to brown babies (traditionally known as black skin). Points out that all of us descend (genetically speaking) from Black people. Food for thought (lol).

Shazer - I respectfully disagree. I've studied the origins of the African/American experience (extensively). Here are some little known facts about slavery.

European prisoners from the debtors’ prisons in Europe where actually the first slaves in the United States. What happened - they had worker’s rights (they were very limited rights, but they still had rights)? European slaves were able to file grievances with their perspective home country's citing poor working conditions in the U.S. They were eventually sent back home to Europe and/or employed as "buck-breakers" for the new staff of African slaves.

Europeans tried to enslave the native Americans as well, but they fell victim to European diseases (illnesses that white people had developed natural immunities to from their living conditions within close proximity to domesticated animals in Europe). Native Americans would also fight back (very hostile and uncontrollable for the purposes of slavery).Native Americans ran away, back off into the forests that the European explorers where not familiar with. They were too uncooperative and sickly to work the land.

Enter the African slaves (or Khemet – land of the blacks). Africa is a European word. Africans were immune to European diseases from years of trade, they were non hostile (traditional African culture was very peaceful – there was no need for war because the land was rich in resources for everyone to live well), and they new how to cultivate land. Slave owners didn’t know what to do with South Carolina at first. It was the African slaves who taught them how to grow rice and make the settlement’s land profitable.

White people enjoy all their riches in the US and Europe, because Africans made the sacrifice then and they’re still making the sacrifice now. Do they owe Africa, because of this unfortunate fact – yes. Are they going to pay – no. Does Africa have the power to make them pay – no. So it’s a dead issue.

I love Halle Berry (spelling?). One of my favorite roles of hers was in the movie Bulworth. This was her answer to the question from Senator Bulworth "Why do you think there aren't any black leaders any more"? was:
"Some think it is because of the destruction of the manufacturing base in the urban centers, a postive, energized populace produces positive, energized leaders. A populace which has given up hope does not".

The Congress could repatriate these manufacturing jobs with four easy steps. First, cut all the crap out of the federal register that punishes a company for daring to employ people. About 8,000 to 9,000 pages. Second, declare a tax holiday on repatriated profits for companies which do business in the United States. Tax their overseas profits but give them a tax holiday if they invest those profits in the US and create jobs. Third, tax foreign corporations on their GROSS revenues. Foreign corporations play games where they show 0 profit on net revenues. For example, Toyota has a holding company based in Malaysia. The holding company buys cars from Toyota Japan, then sells them to Toyota US for a loss. Toyota claims they make zero profits in their Toyota US company. So, tax them on their GROSS revenue. Then give them a way out so they can get taxed on NET revenue. IF they move their manufacturing operations to the US they can claim normal business deductions and pay tax on NET revenue. Fourth, forbid the importation of any product manufactured in a country that tolerates slavery. Also ban the sale of ALL products from any company which are known to use slave labor in their manufacturing operations. Bye bye Nike.

Also, you make a second racist remark when you attribute similar characteristics and attitudes to ALL black people. I have known since I was about 5 that race is a manmade construct. My mother taught me that. I asked her one day why there were people of different colors. She said "God made people different colors for the same reason He made flowers of different colors, variety is the spice that life is made of". We were taught in, I think 3rd grade that there is only one race, the human race.

Poverty in most parts of Africa is a direct result of the domination of the majority of the population by thugs, either "Official" thugs who are recognized by the UN or self appointed thugs who are called rebels. Oh, and the victims and the victimizers are both black for the most part. America sends food to these areas and the food does not make it to the starving people, it gets stolen by these same thugs who then use the food stores as a way to control the starving. Again, both groups are the same color.

Actually, poverty in Africa is a direct result of CIA intervention for the purpose of keeping the country divided. Which results in sweat deals for American businesses. Those thugs you spoke of are backed by American dollars. And America receives all sorts of "easements" as a result.

Actually, most white coaches I know say the opposite. "Black" kids get more benefit of the doubt with athletics from my experience. I understand what you are talking about with the quarterback situation but I've seen white skill kids get looked over. I personally look at it on an individual basis. I don't care what color or race or what the kid is. I'm going to put the best athlete at that position, period.
