pitbulls. just make sure they are not coming from some inbred tx hillbilly who fights his dogs. pits are very loyal and if treated well, are great companions, not vicious unless given a reason.

Can not say enough about the Great Dane we had.
Best damn dog I could ever ask for.
But do your homework. You can not leave a dane alone all the time.
Find a breed of dog that fits what you can offer it.

Anything that doesn't have a bunch of health issues. A lot of purebred dogs suffer from this.

Get a Pit Bull. Just make sure you get a puppy and raise him/her up. You will never have a problem as long as you raise it right. It will be exactly what you wan't from the description you gave.

It looks like you are on a strict budget so get a dog that doesn't need lots of food.

I love dogs. Get a medium size dog. Small dogs are usually way to high energy and big dogs are too much to handle plus ya gotta feed them a ton.

Whatever your planning on spending on this dog you can give to me. I'll come over, piss and shit on your floor, eat too much of ur food and puke on your floor. I will bark nonstop at every fukkin person that walks down the road. Next, I'll proceed to hump your wife/gf and then run away.
P.S. I ate at 2 different mexican restaurants today.

Golden Retriever.
Most beautiful, most loyal, most friendly, smartest, alert, protective. Put simply, the master breed. Labs and German Shepherds fit closely here too.
But if you're some thug hardass and want a vicious, ugly animal that is prone to attacking kids and can kill anybody, then yeah, go with a pitbull.

Pits are actually great, loyal loving dogs who live for their owner. However, there is a caveat here. In general, they're great but every now and then you'll get one with a short temper. These are bad because a pit bull is powerful, determined dog. When it loses it's temper it takes a firm hand from the owner to get it right. But by no means should this discourage you from getting one. The "caveat" dogs are maybe 1 in a 100. Pit Bull rescue is the best place as they weed these dogs out or at least ensure they go to right owners (usually one's with out kids).
I personally will never own anything other than a Pit. I absolutely love the breed, they are the most mislabeled breed ever.

Well the first thing is if money is an issue then dogs shouldn't be on your list because a dog over the course of its life will put a strain on your finances. The second thing you must make sure you do is put your time into doing research, I can't stress that fact any harder. There are so many BYB's (Back Yard breeders) out there who pump out dogs for the sole purpose of profit. A real breeder who breeds for the sole purpose of bettering the breed. Breeders like that are very difficult to find but the best way to find them are on breed specific breeds. I am a well known member of www.dobermantalk.com. I am a proud owner of a Doberman Pinsher and I will tell you right now I am so glad I did my home work on the breed because this dog needs alot of attention and care. He needs to constantly be excercised physically and mentally. Doberman's are so intelligent you could see when he was a puppy that this dog is going places. He is just over a year right now and already him and I have bonded like no other. Him and I train at the Minimum 15 minutes twice a day, pretty much up until he gets restless then I end it off on a high not and we go back to life. If your looking for a dog to tie up in your back yard then a Doberman is not that type of dog, they are meant to be in your house and by your side. Doberman's are amazing for personal protection (meaning they are there to protect you and your family).
No one breed is horrible it is strictly based on breeding and the amount training an owner puts into his dog.
I will tell you owning a dog is one thing that I am privileged to have because they provide you unconditional love regardless of how shitty your day was.
