Haven't cared for Baseball or Basketball ever since. Still watch college football and NFL though, but it comes second to soccer. Not talking MLS either, that shit really is garbage.

Soccer is not about the score, it is all about style..

If you watch the game closely, or at least know what to watch for.. you will see how different styles of play clash. You will recognize what form of play is superior than the other. Some teams are more creative and loose with their possessions making the game fast-paced. Other teams are more direct and do not improvise, prefer to slow down the tempo and shut down the opposition.

The most effective style of play is also the least attractive, preserving a definite shape while attempting the occasional direct attack.

On a side note, soccer is a very dirty sport... there are a lot of cheap shots and questionable hits that makes the game very attractive to the soccer fanatics. The only thing holding this sport back from an american audience is a winning US champion team.

I am an aussie, so we call football soccer too. We also have a rather indifferent opinion of the game. our A League is poor, so poor in fact the last socceroo coach refused to select any playters from our national competition for the world Cup. So I can understand the indifference towards this game in the US.

What I cant understand is the totally moronic comments from some of the posters in here, 2 especially, Mr maturity maxcraft and Mr Logic defying Vegas Bond.

You two are displaying the stereotypical attitude of the world towards Americans (I will qualify this comment by stating i know the attitude is somewhat untrue/unfounded, well from my experience anyway). Seriously, Australia has its largest spectator sport as AFL, a sport so insular that to get any international play they have to go to Ireland and modify the game. We are not ignorant enough to say 'hey, AFL is the best game int the world". The same should be said for NFL. There is no other country which can claim that this is a profile sport at all. To claim that this sport is somewhat better than soccer is just plain idiotic and untrue. Just by simple numbers this is wrong. DO NOT compare your MLS with the NBA or MLB or NFL, it is a d grade competition. modern legends of the game, Robbie Fowler and David Beckham play in our appalling leagues simply for the pension cheque.

Why does there have to be a winner in every game that is played? (excluding finals/playoffs etc) Did Houston not possibly deserve a share of the spoils today after 2 90+m drives to tie the game late? dont tell me Baltimore deserved it more because they were ahead for longer, if they did they would not have let them catch up, they would have held a bigger lead.

Soccer is not the most popular sport in Europe. It's the most popular sport in the World! Probably because you can be just a regular guy and your childhood dreams of becoming a pro can come true.
In football you almost always have to be big and tall. In basketball you almost always have to be really tall to even think about a career. In soccer you can be short like Messi or as tall as Crouch and still make it.

How about baseball? Watch nine innings of a baseball game going 0-0 and then compare it to a 0-0 soccer game.

Take it from me. I have played baseball, football, basketball, soccer and a little tennis and volleyball. ALL are lots of fun to play. Watching is a different story. Probably if I had to choose, baseball would be the most boring to watch on the whole. Of course there are some very exciting games, but during the course of the season there are so many that are not. There are boring games in all sports.

Anyway, you don't have to hate on the sport.
If you don't like it, don't watch it or bet on it. It's as simple as that.

Based on these numbers, the average MLB attendance is 30207 and the average Premier League attendance is 35599. You must take into account that there are over 100 pro football teams in the small country that is England (ie more teams to support, less possible attendance) compared to the MLB teams basically 1 team per state. Therefore either the Prem attendances are fantastic or the mlb embarrassing...
