You boys talking about how the wind will favor Venus need to go Google flat servers, which Venus is, and windy conditions. Flat serves have a small margin of error because it needs to slice through the air so quickly and it has to barely skim the net in order to be effective. When it's windy, her margin of error on her first serve increases dramatically and it's only on her first serve that she can attempt a proper flat serve because she risks double faulting on the second - again because of such a small margin of error even in perfect conditions. I may not know much about tennis but I do know this.

I just put my down again to sleep (hopefully for the last time tonight ) so I'm about to turn on the match now. Hopefully it's not too windy. I want these women to win in great conditions - not because of, or lose because of, crappy wind.

yeah no kidding this open has been silly.. Fed is a master of the wind.. u watch some of the shots he pulled the other night? there were moments where i swore he knew the wind was picking up and made split second decisions to slice balls or kill them at the net.. it was amazing to watch

There is a difference between serving with the wind and against the wind. Kim does not have the ability to change it from spin to flat up like a Nadal or Federer. That will be a good match. Who says you don't know about tennis don't be silly

Shari - technically I 100% agree, but based on the last matches I think Venus adjusted better to the conditions (especially effect of head/tail wind), and seemed to rely less on the first serve to have to hold. Looks like wind won't be a major factor today in any case so ... game on!

But does Venus have the ability to change it up from a hardcore flat to a spin and still have a killer serve? Kim wouldn't need to change hers but Venus would as she's the flat server. Good thing is from the 5 minutes I've been watching so far is that it doesn't seem to be that windy at all which makes me happy. I want the best players on the day to win. Not the players who adapt to the conditions more effectively. It's the semis of the Open - give us great matches!!!

I've always had love for both her and Serena - you have to if you love women's tennis. But it got too boring when they were winning all the time. Kind of the same thing with Tiger when you knew that all he had to do was show up and he'd win a tournament. Now that Venus is struggling a bit I love seeing her do well but I'd be happier if this set got to at least 7-5 either way so some of us could hit our over!!
