Clijsters herself said that Venus is playing some the best tennis she has seen in this tourney .. and that all the time off for Venus has her really hungry...

IDK. maybe i am being a USA homer.. but i would love to watch her win.. last year was awful with all the fans at the Open cheering for Clijsters over Venus..

Well considering I just put in a Clijsters/Woz parlay I can't say I'll be cheering for her but I wouldn't be too disappointed if she won. Although it sucks for Serena that she's out, it's actually nice that Venus has done well in this tournament and not constantly been under the shadow of her sister. Even the women's doubles has opened up and become at least somewhat interesting with them not in it.

It does stink that people were cheering against her last year but I don't think her and Serena have made too many fans for a few reasons. It was boring as a spectator when they were winning all the time and their father's constant yapping about their greatness didn't help. Plus some of their comments in post-match interviews can come across as cold and arrogant even if they don't intend them that way. People are naturally drawn to the underdog so maybe now that she is one again she'll get that fan support in her match although I wouldn't be too surprised if people still cheered on the Menacing Mommy.

FUK YEAH.. that is what i am talking about.. i thought Schiavone was going to give Venus some real trouble and the first set Venus had a few moments where she stumbled a bit.. but she kept her head down and just dominated from that point on ..

With the wind and everything if Schiavone couldn't beat Venus I don't think Clijsters will. Venus wants this Major bad.. she is towards the end of her career and is due for a Major.. plus man she is just flat out due vs Clijsters.. i mean really she is going to loose 5 in a row? that alone is worth betting against no??

i think plenty of people are Shari.. but Venus is a pure gut call at this point.. something about the interview with clijsters has me thinking that she even thinks Venus is due .. Woz and Fed are just auto play and i forgot to even consider fed for my parlay..

i put 50 down on a parlay and it pays out over 150 .. Venus to me is the weak spot in the parlay but she is needed as she offsets the price of the other two big favorites..

Either way the homer in me will be Rooting for the Stars and Stripes tomorrow.. i hope Venus has a new dress for us

i think you are right.. but i have feeling she is going to bust out something crazy to gather the strength for a win tomorrow.. she owns a clothing company so i figured it wasn't far fetched..

i am into bets like this..

when me and my friends go to vegas my one buddy acts as a bookie and comes up with bets for everyone.. we all put in 20 bucks that has 20 bets automatically attached to it.. like who passes out first.. who gets the first number.. who ask to borrow money for something first.. etc..etc..

but then he comes up with bets on the spot.. like during super bowl in reno.. what ad will air first.. apple or microsoft.. will the loud group next to us get tossed yes or no..

Unless it's the first match of the day, which the Venus match isn't, then it only starts once the match before it finishes so times in sportsbooks are usually only guesses at the most. The mens doubles is being played right now. When that one finishes, the Wozniacki/Zvonareva match will begin.

Exactly my thoughts, I think the wind favours Venus significantly as Kim's serve is such a free point weapon for her when it's on and we saw with Stosur how much the wind affected her. Venus has all the mental motivation to win here and I'm convinced she will fight for this one hard.

Both of these SF's were basically coin-flips in my opinion, and I'm shocked there is any large favourites. If I didn't already have a large future on Zvon - I believe I tailed you on that - I would have probably bet her on the HC as well.

You boys talking about how the wind will favor Venus need to go Google flat servers, which Venus is, and windy conditions. Flat serves have a small margin of error because it needs to slice through the air so quickly (which it obviously can't do properly in the wind) and it has to barely skim the net in order to be effective. When it's windy, her margin of error on her first serve increases dramatically and it's only on her first serve that she can attempt a proper flat serve because she risks double faulting on the second - again because of such a small margin of error even in perfect conditions. I may not know much about tennis but I do know this.
