Defunding has always been about less cops more community. Nobody wants zero oversight, but the citizens and the politicians and the judicial system have evolved to a more relaxed view on prosecution and incarceration for the vast majority of offenses police continue to arrest for. As such, the antiquated police model isn't working so cities want to redirect those resources away from cops, unions, and the cycle of police violence and instead put that money into community programs and other forms of response to crime.
And guess what, they're right to try this, because the current model if law enforcement is broken, out if date, out of touch and ineffective use of tax dollars. City cops are worthless today with liberal ideologies taking over the justice system.
