That exclusive "kicker" ball has to have something to do w it. Seems more "eye" shaped than gameplay balls.

Also, way more 45 yard + FGs being attempted.

Kickers rarely use a kick specific shoe or barefoot anymore.

More possessions per game, more attempts at EPs and FGs by default....scoring is up. Games are longer because of clock stoppage.

I think it is just an outlier on the bell curve of statistics. It may also be that the quality of kickers isn't what it used
to be. I think there is a league wide push to not tie allot of money into the kicker so consequently they are utilizing younger
guys who may or may not have the chops to be consistent enough in their play, but they are cheap because they are under the rookie
salary cap criteria or a few years so they don't need to break the bank to retain their services.
I think we will soon see a single kicker who has the ability to do all the kicking duties. A single guy who can punt, field goal
kick and do the kickoffs will become the new normal over the net 10 years in my opinion. The league will make provisions much
like with quarterbacks to have a dude ready as a emergency back up that is not really counted in the game day line up.

The kickers fail to kick the ball between the posts.

Looking at those numbers...kickers are still pretty automatic from within 40 yards. Guess it seems worse since you remember the misses more.

Also, Vinateri is really pulling down the percentages.

Yeah thinking back there was a time nobody kicked fgs over 50 yards....didn't want to lose the field position.

Kickers suck these days. There are only a handful that are solid and that you can trust.. Lack of talent at that position period..

if you don't kick the ball between the uprights, you don't make the kick - john madden

i think it is a lost art where legs are stronger but accuracy is sometimes better to have

FG % has bounced between 80-85% the last 20 years, so overall it's about the same. It is at its lowest point since 2003, but not by a crazy amount. Extra points are simply the result of moving the distance back a few years ago.
