One Week Until College Basketball - Ask Me Anything

Only one week until college hoops starts, with a real treat to open the season:
#3 Kansas vs #4 Duke at 7pm eastern and #1 Michigan State vs #2 Kentucky at 9:30 eastern at Madison Square Garden on ESPN.

But there are also 353 Div 1 teams in college basketball. I know there has to be more hoops junkies out there other than me, Ayo, Louisvillekid1 and a few others.

AMA - I will comment on any questions you have in order to get ready for the new season! Post your questions/comments/bets/predictions here!

    Dom,

Is Nico Mannion good enough to lead Arizona to Pac-10 supremacy?

Absolutely. I think Florida battles Kentucky for the SEC, and Gators have a well rounded squad with enough mixture of talent and experience to make a run in March.

Nembhard & Mann make up a top 10 back court, Va Tech transfer Kerry Blackshear is nearly unstoppable down low, and I’m super excited about their 5-star freshman wing Scottie Lewis who is probably the best freshman defender in the country and athletic enough to develop into a serious scorer.

I already have futures on Florida to win the natty at 17/1 odds

Stevey, I’ve watched a lot of video on Nico Mannion and the kid’s a stud! Big fan of his already and he’s the main reason why I have Arizona projected to win the PAC this year.

Arizona plays Illinois, Baylor and Gonzaga in the non-conference schedule... I think they can win 2/3 but if they handle the Zags then Zona will be the team to beat in the PAC-12.

But PAC-12 should be tougher this year, and overall a hell of a lot better than last year’s shit show. Washington has a pair of 5-stars also. Oregon will be legit and is being picked by most experts to win the PAC. Colorado returns McKinley Wright who could win PAC-12 POY, along with most of last year’s team. Beyond those 4 contenders, there’s some other halfway decent squads - USC has talent, ASU returns junior point guard Remy Martin so they got a chance to be decent, and UCLA has a real coach now

stevey this kid can drain 3s for days, dish to his teammates, slash and drive to the rim, and posterize people. Nico Mannion is pure entertainment.

Stros might close it out, no way I could say otherwise. That said I’m confident in saying I don’t believe odds reflect their true chances. Have to pay way too big a premium to back Stros imo.

I haven’t had much chance to look, couple that kinda stuck out off top my head:

Corn -2.5 open. Ppl got burnt with Purdue vs Illini and prob don’t realize weather made that game almost impossible for Purdue. Looks like they jumped on Nebraska laying under a fg,

My tulsa squad catching 10 vs Tulane. Everyone saw tulsa lose yet another upset they should have pulled off vs Memphis, week before Tulane was a popular pick and Memphis ran them out the stadium. Feel like majority prob looking at Tulsa catching dd yet again. But remember what happened to them the week after blowing the smu game? Navy crushed them!! As much I love that tulsa team I think that Memphis loss was even more demoralizing since it all but squashed any thoughts of a bowl game. They also have ucf on deck for a home Friday game which becomes their last super bowl. As much I love that team think that lines screams what I suspect, they get housed here:,

I’ll start a week 10 thread later tonight.

Man it’s gonna be tough for Tulsa. Tulsa lost 3 key pieces in Jeffries, Scott & Taplin, so Haith is gonna have to depend on some young guards making a leap forward. I got Tulsa near the middle of the pack in the conference. My guess is they’ll knock off one of the big boys at home, but probably drop some games that leave you scratching your head.

AAC got 4 teams into the tournament last year. UCF should fall off a cliff with Tacko Fall, BJ Taylor and Aubrey Dawkins all gone. UConn is leaving the AAC for the Big East next year, so they could be distracted. Temple lost its coach and best player - not sure how they could bounce back from that right away.

But Memphis has the best recruiting class the conference has ever seen, Houston just got Kansas 5-star transfer Quentin Grimes eligible, Cincy gets a new coach but Brannen was a winner at NKU where he rode his best player Drew McDonald to multiple conference titles and now he has a chance to do the same with Jarron Cumberland. Those 3 teams are highly likely to make the big dance. Beyond that - Wichita State, South Florida, UConn and Tulsa will all be fighting over probably 1 or 2 remaining tickets to the dance.

As a side note, if those young guards look like they can pan out then I’ll be interested in betting Tulsa often in conference play. Ever since Haith arrived I’ve really liked backing Tulsa against the spread, especially at home.

So untrue. One of easiest sports to have success if you know how to cap it, lines are not sharp at all. Totals often move 5-6-7-8 points off the opener.

Blows my mind when ya’ll make definitive statements like this. Just cause it not a good sport for you doesn’t make that accurate in any way. For myself it always been in this order of best to worst, baseball, ncaa bb, ncaa fb, nba (playoffs go way up list), pretty much anything else, then NFL which a crapshoot with by far tightest lines., hockey is making a appearance for me tho and if continues going so well might end up in top 3!!!

Had to change way I’ve went about ncaa hoops the last 5 years or so, kenpom used to be a huge help but now they basically mimic his lines.

Kaleb Wesson is Ohio State’s best player. He led the team last year in scoring and rebounding. If he cleans up the foul trouble he could be one of the best players in the Big Ten. His older brother Andre is a senior now, helping Kaleb out in the front court. Difference between last season & this season is now the Buckeyes actually have a legit backcourt with CJ & DJ - Florida State transfer CJ Walker and 5-star point guard DJ Carton.

No, I don’t think they’ll win at UNC, one of the toughest places to play. But OSU gets Cincinnati and Villanova both in November, so you’ll find out real soon how legit this team is.
