Women get caught trying to bluff to much or playing too tight. It's the fine line all players must walk to get far in tournament play. As far as cash games go, I think some women do damn good. No worse %-wise than men. Tournaments are a different animal, you can't get too far without switching strategies and playing close attention to button position. Lots of women get rattled by the bad beats.

Of course it makes sense. Strongman is based on strength. Poker is based on strategy and is the most strategic of any casino gambling. Yeah there is luck but we aren't talking about can women win a hand of poker, we are asking why aren't there more female poker players. The answer is among other things they aren't or don't care to be as strategic. In poker if you use no strategy your luck runs out pretty quickly.

I don't think it's a percentage thing. If it was a constant 5% in the field, you'd still see a lot more women at the final tables than you see now.

Men are bigger gamblers, yes. But that doesn't explain the lack of success from women, it just explains the above percentages.

I think it's men's analysis over emotion that makes us better at poker overall. It the same reason why lesbian women tend to do well overall -- they relate more with men and can turn their emotions off more easily. When you do that, you can focus more, and you can't make final tables without a lot of that. Same reason why players who drink when they play (outside of the small handful of outliers you can name) don't do well either.

Now, for every 10 that are in computers (I/T) professionally, I would say 8 are men, and 2 are women, the 2 women that call I/T a career it's been my experience that they are extremely sharp. No, I/T chicks are not drop dead gorgeous beauty queens, the stereotype is pretty much accurate, pale complexion, glasses, on the thin side. Just plain looking, I work for an insurance company (yeah I know, yawn) but it's a damn good job, women there are sharp as a tack, but just plain looking.

I'm digressing here (I'm the king of that) one of the reasons why "women are no good at poker" is poker is a math game, and math is an area where most women have no interest, the math heads that are women seem to play very well though.
