    The Kansas City Royals outhit the Detroit Tigers 22-7 and won the game 16-2, winning their eighth straight. One of their top performers ventured into an obscure spot in franchise history as a result.

    Eric Hosmer had five hits, one of which being a grand slam. That is a first for the 49-year-old organization. But the Royals first baseman also made club history by recording a five-hit, five-RBI and five-run game. Hosmer, who hit four singles in addition to his grand slam, had six RBIs in Wednesday night’s rout in Detroit.
