Martingale combine with parleys are the thing casinos and bookies hate the most because you can make millions starting with a few bucks. (imagine a 2 dollar parley on Floyd since he started)
Straights bets are a joke unless you bet over 2k per game. I have friend betting 500 per game with a winning record. In 200 games he bet a year he wins around 110, lose 90. Spend over 3 hours a day watching sports and handicapping.

Now you can ask why he doesn't bet more. Answer he have tried but a few losses kill his bankroll and making 500 a month you cant save much.
So martingale/parley are not the problem, the problem is how far you go with it and how bad are your picks.
