Respectfully, kinda missing the point. The Big Picture point is that the guy that pockets 5k should actually have to play some poker... this being a poker tourney & all. Anyone that deems it not worthy of their time is more than welcome to bow out... no one being forced to play. The final tourneys in the past weren't poker, just luckfest stack flips. SBR has run enough of those, time to play a tourney with at least a modicum of poker strategy needed to gain an advantage. Kinda like the rest of the poker world does. Imagine that, on SBR even. If anyone is too bigtime to conclude it's not worth their time to potentially make over 1k an hour on a random Saturday afternoon... well, maybe they need to think of better things to do other than SBR poker. That's fair enough, and GL to all that feel that way. Most, however, will welcome the structure change and give SBR a big THANK YOU for changing it.

I remember playing in some 6 plus hour tournaments on Bovada way back in the day and loved them. Either I was a poker nut or just a degenerate. I have always found it strange about people complaining about a 2 hour tournament. I welcome this new structure and hope this is just a start for this format in upcoming final tournaments.

Then again this is coming from the guy that after playing almost 14 hours in the WSOP and getting knocked out after getting my AA cracked, I went back to my hotel and played cash game for 4 more hours.

Ever played in the high roller? It has higher starting stacks and the low amount of players in it means poker has to be played, not bingo. It's pretty entertaining watching people betting 20x the BB early, or pushing all in repeatedly to win 40. They don't adjust to go from the daily turbos to a slower paced tournament.

Thanks, SBR! I know many many people have wanted a real tournament. Hopefully the bitching can be kept to a minimum afterward and this will be the format from now on.

While I totally agree with your points, we still gotta keep in mind what we're playing here for.
Only one of us has a shot at 5K...while the other 14 will score some SBR tokens.

So a 5-6 hour tourney on a Saturday (it will be a night time for some of us on the other side of the globe) is a bit ridiculous imo.
Most of us are only playing daily tourneys, because they're turbos...so it would be nice to have the same format in this final tournament as well.

Ridiculous? Nah. Would have been better if the format was announced sooner, but the date has been set for months. Requiring some type of skill for the final tournament is a very nice change, as the only final to a contest, since I've played poker here, that required skill was the World Cup. Of course, it's a luck fest to get on to a team in the first place in that.

All of the donkaroos have had their share of turbo final tournaments that end up being all in/fold with half the field left. Now the people who want to actually play some poker get their turn. The good news, for those who want a bingofest instead, is that there is bound to be a bingo hall open at 5pm EST on Saturday that they can go attend instead.

The format is close to being perfect. The blinds are fine, but we are starting with about 3000 more chips than really necessary with these long blinds levels and by starting off at 10/20. But we will just be watching the Wild Card games while playing so that will make it even better

No Bingo halls open in Moscow at 1AM tho...Setting a final tourney date months in advance without disclosing a format is a meaningless argument here.

It's possible, but I like some of the 2016 top 15 to do well in this since it will require poker play and not dumb luck. JediMindPicks at #22 is going to be tough.

I think it's a pretty grey area when it comes to talking about other sites here. You should be good to go, as long as the site is not a scam and you're not promoting it.

I got censured for talking about a different site even though I didn't think they were related. Was asked if I have half a brain which is a great thing to tell a stroke survivor.

Oprah, immediately after asking Drew Brees who on her tv production crew kissed him and left lipstick on his cheek when he came out and met the fat black bitch for trhe first time, feels bad about SBR's foot in mouth "half a brain" comment.....

on a somewhat tongue-in-cheek, hope you can appreciate the humor note, it says a lot about the sbr poker "talent pool" when a guy SBR alleges only has half a brain can finish in the top 10 of a four-month long poker promo......

Damn if some players knew it would be a reasonable structure compared to the usual shovefest style they might've tried to qualify. Hopefully this starts a new trend of poker play mattering in finals

    Cosign this post.

When 1st place is worth about 5 times as much as 2nd, you need to let the last 2 guys play it out. Slow play at the beginning is fine by me, especially since I will be pushing it to be home at 5pm.

So why run the format as such for the qualifiers. Make them all last 5-6 hours if we really want to let the "real" poker come to the front. The faster structure is real poker, its just a different variation. Stars, party and all had faster/turbo blind limit structures and the same people seemed to continue to make money with the "bingo" game. Remember Boku (cant remember rest) guy made both his nothing to 100k runs playing primarily turbos. And you guys want to call the structure bingo but seem to forget the same people finish near the top of the standings every year so there is obviously something strategy wise to it (and daily play of course)

If we were playing a series of tourneys I could see doing it with a changed structure but to change formats this drastically for one tourney makes no sense. Its literally one tourney with a $5,000 prize, a few prizes approaching value of maybe a grand and then a drop down to a few hundred bucks tops with around 100 players. And then we got 50 Phil Iveys yelling that a longer structure will allow their " real" poker skill to outshine the "bingo" players.

I'll play it, not above anything of course I just think if were gonna play these as tournaments we should make something similar for the daily tournaments as well. Maybe 4-5 hour dailies and then the 6 plus hour final won't seem so extreme. This way the REAL poker can come out.

33% of SBR's contests go from 40 person turbos to 4 handed for the finals. I'm, of course, talking about the World Cup. You can't get any more different from the qualifier than that.

Turbos favor aggressive players, when you stretch the blinds out and raise the starting stack then you allow other styles of play to actually stand a chance. You can't play conservatively in the dailies and expect to do well. Nothing wrong with giving other styles a chance, it's a nice change.

Seeing as how this is the first non-turbo since Shari's tournament back around Christmas of 2015, I don't see all the fuss. Turbo lovers get their tournament every day, four times a day except for when the WC finals is running.

Again, if you want bingofest then go to a bingo hall and skip the tournament.
