When I was 17 my parents gave me the boot with not a cent to my name, lived in a basement full of cat shit right outside the door, slept in a sleeping bag next to a furnace and a clothes washer and dryer for over a year before I could afford to get my own appartment. never been on welfare tho.
Id wake up at 5am and go to a temp labour place (mostly construction jobs) and sometimes Id get lucky enough to go work for 7.50 and hour, slaving and working my ass off for someone who's paying 15 an hour for me. mind you it is winter at the time. bus to a place I had no idea on where it was because I moved to the big city to find work. Then get my check for my days work of 50 dollars, cash it, buy my supper and lunch for the next day and have 30 bucks to save in case they didnt send me out the next day.
Those days are now very far behind but that "poor" lifestyle will not ever be forgotten.
