    Referees Blew the Lions Game

Seahawks tapped the ball out of the endzone. This is illegal. Should have been a penalty. Lions ball half the distance to the goal:

And then the refs cover themselves up by saying it was the line judges call, and he thought it was a tap that was not on purpose.hahahahaha

So this is why I lost my in-play over 23.5? penetrate... I mean I know refereeing in European football can be bad but these guys have video replays and like 10 referees on the field for penetrates sake.

Meh same result if he just chooses to fall on it or the ball gets hit out accidently

More ammo for the anti ref militia though....they are garbage overall

    Same result?

Should have been a penalty, Lions ball first and goal. The refs blew it.

If the player could have fallen on it cleanly he would have done so. He didn't.

My hometown team strikes again. Despite a prolifically horrible effort by Stafford and the offensive line- they had a chance to win the game outright and blew it by just not protecting the football. They covered the number but should have won outright. You can never say you've seen it all with a Detroit Lions team. I've seen them blow games many times over the years and this would be another right up near the top of the list. If Calvin Johnson just protects the ball better- it isn't left in the hands of the penetrating referees and the problem is solved.

I'm a Seahawk hater, but come on guys, this is ridiculous. The reason that is in the rule books is to not allow the defense to have an advantage when the ball is loose and all they have to do is punch the ball as harder as they can out of bounds. The player was all by himself, no one from Detroit even close to recovering the ball.

How does every referee AND every Detroit Lions personnel not know this rule?

How can there be so many people not knowing the rules?

Agreed. Dont put the ball on the ground. If you follow this rule no other rules will be important.

The ball was going out of bounds anyway, but the Seattle player intentionally knocked it out of bounds with his right hand, thinking he was securing the touchback.

The rule may be stupid, but the rule is in place for a reason. To prevent players from intentionally knocking a fumbled ball out of the endzone just to get a touchback. That's exactly what Seattle did and the refs didn't call it.

Lions coaching staff just as at fault as the refs for not questioning this.

Just feels like it's getting worse. Too many blown calls in big games or at pivotal times and ridiculous rules ie. what constitutes a catch, celebration rules, etc. The NFL may be making tons of cash, but as a product it just feels inferior to what it was a generation ago.

The NFL rulebook is too big. 99% of posters didn't know about the rule. In all other sports the average Joe knows the rules.

The rule should be if you fumble on the 1 yard line with the game on the line then you get fukked in the ass by an angry gorilla.

There's an official about 20 feet away and his view of the player intentionally batting the ball beyond the end line could not possibly be any clearer. If this official ever works another game, the NFL just doesn't give a damn.

The league just hates the Lions. It's bad enough the team is based in Detroit, but they also get screwed consistently with bad calls year after year.

this play happens all the time. But it is the offense doing it. Every ref in the NFL knows this rule. Every coach in the NFL should know this rule. No "Well I can see how a PRO ref wouldn't know this rule. BULLSHyT The fockin coach should know it also. They get paid MILLIONS boys. Wrap your minds around the fact that this shit is FIXED.

IMO, the NFL needs to make a rule change that can prevent arguments like this...when ever a player fumbles and the ball goes into the endzone and out of bounds, regardless if it's hit by another player or not, the offense still retains possession at the point of the muff!...in other words, no more touch backs...why should a defense be rewarded for not recovering a fumble?!

Sorry Manster, disagree. Majority of the rules benefit the offense; keep the touchback rule and eliminate the batting penalty. It's perfectly legal to bat the ball out of bounds on an onside kick attempt, why should it be any different on a potential turnover? The less judgement calls the better.

Too much money on the line. Plus it'd ruin the script of the Seahawks in the playoffs.

I sure as shit wouldn't be the ref to blow that call for Goodell. You'd be banished officiating Edmonton Eskimo games the rest of your career

You can't review judgement calls .... < That right there is the worst rule in the book.If any plays needs to be reviewed , judgement calls you would think would be at the top of the list .....
