-Every ML favorite won--which is unbelievable.

-Favorites went 8-2-1 ATS not counting the Car/TB game not sure how to classify that one but the majority were on Carolina so it should really be 9-2-1

-o/u was 5-7 so not much there either.


The only thing I can think of is teasers and parlays must have fell through which I doubt. Otherwise, guys who bet straight up and lean with the dogs really took it hard today.

I was 3-0 today with Seattle, Atlanta, and Cincinnati and I don't consider myself a square. Just because one bets favorites, doesn't mean they are squares. I don't care if a team is an underdog or a favorite, if I see value in the line, I'm taking it either way. I went 3-4 for NCAA yesterday with 3 of my 4 losses being the three dogs I played. I've got Indy going tomorrow night @ -3. I don't think that's a square play, I think there's value in that line. I don't like it when people on here talk about square plays because a person plays favorites. I admit that I play more favorites than dogs, usually around 60/40. I've found that to be a pretty good ratio. Does that make me a square? I don't think so. Far from it actually.

Well ur right....SI is reporting 51% on Minn 49% on Det...so that game was a wash i guess.

I'll switch that up though...i've never seen every favrorite ML come through before it has to be a first.

You aren't....it's just a square day in general when favs go 8-2 and every fav ML hits...it's the only way I could describe today. Vegas took it hard today no other way to look at it.

Trust me, I wish i played more favs personally...not ever sure how to find value in favorites.

Shawn don't sell yourself short...your doing a good job so far. Your playing with an A+ book, your playing only a handful of games each weekend, your talking with others about games and sharing insights, your analyzing why you won and why you lost, etc...

You had a better day than most professional gamblers out there did today and that's no easy accomplishment.

Something has to give tomorrow Razz. Favorites 11-0 in the money line which is unheard of...only NYJ and Houston covered ATS.

Vegas is going to go broke tomorrow if Indy wins and covers and not to mention there are reports out there of guys middling this game from the early line.

Thanks for the uplift. So far, in my young wagering history, I'm 12-11-1 (one push). To be honest, that's probably better than I should have expected to do, what with me knowing nothing about this stuff and learning as I go. I appreciate your kind words, but I have gotten lucky so far. I've bet dogs early and favorites late, as one example of my noobness. I do seem to have an eye for unders, going 4-1 so far, but otherwise it's hit and miss as I bet on what seems sensible to me. Honestly, I'm only doing this for fun and if I make enough of a profit I'll burn some off as mad money (an extra gig of RAM for the computer, etc.). You may be a "noob" Shawn, but you're one of the most intelligent rookies in sportsbetting. So many people walk into the sportsbook thinking they know everything about a certain sport. When they get hammered their first week, they think that everything was haywire and that it was a fluke rather than admit they don't know as much as they think they know and that they don't have a clue about sportsbetting. They continue to lose because of their own ignorance and ego. Knowing sports doesn't make one a sportsbettor just like knowing politics does not make one President. I've got friends who are real sharp and they rarely even follow sports. Don't let your ego or ignorance get in the way of your betting or you'll go bust.

You, on the other hand, have chosen to expand your betting knowledge by joining and posting on this forum, a forum that has many sharp players posting in a friendly atmosphere always willing to offer advice or help. You can come here and ask questions and learn about things most bettors never think of. They look at the lines, laugh, and think they're going to be millionaires because of all the "mistakes" the linesmakers made this week. I will give you just two pointers to keep in mind:

1. The first step to beating the number is to respect the number. These lines are being made by people with access to more info than the average bettor could dream of. Most football games are going to fall within a field goal of the number. Looking at a line and immediately thinking that its off is a sure way to lose. Lines open where they do for a reason. Find out why the line opened where it did and then go from there.

2. The sportsbook does not beat the player. The sportsbook gives the player the chance to beat himself. This is in my signature because everyone needs to remember it from time to time. The sportsbook doesn't beat you in sportsbetting, you beat yourself. Whether its making too many plays, too many dumb plays, or not getting good line value, there's not enough margin for error in sportsbetting to allow the bettor to make mistakes. Remember, you're not betting against the house, you're betting against Joe Public and if you can beat him more than 53% of the time, you will be a long term winner.

All you need is a little math and to able to find the best line and vig. You have to know if you would rather take -6.5 -128 or -7 -110.

Thanks for the compliments and the tips Senator. I most definately have learned that the linesmakers are accurate. I posted a couple of weeks ago that the -8 for Cincy over Green Bay was too low and should be -12 or more. Cincy won by 7. I've taken lines more seriously since that game too. Look at yesterday....K.C. is -4.5 and wins by 4, and Chicago was -3 and won by 3.

The tip about who I'm betting against is helpful too. I see the book as a demanding friend. That friend will allow you to make money, but he's kind of demanding about it and requires you to do most of the work.
