#2The NBA, NFL and MLB are dreaming up ways to play amid a pandemic, with talk of isolating players in Arizona or Las Vegas or maybe on the moon. It all sounds great, until you talk to people who actually know science.
First, let’s do away with the suggestion, put forth by President Donald Trump, that football season could go on as normal, beginning on time in September and unfolding in front of crowded stadiums.
"We will not have sporting events with fans until we have a vaccine," says Zach Binney, a PhD in epidemiology who wrote his dissertation on injuries in the NFL and now teaches at Emory. Barring a medical miracle, the process of developing and widely distributing a vaccine is likely to take 12 to 18 months.Comment -

#16My guess is the players and support staff aren’t in any great hurry to get back out there without a vaccine either

#20It don't seem that some individuals realize the 'support staff' piece. I seen a Facebook post last night by a guy I previously thought was reasonable. He posted a picture of a few guys on a golf course and a picture of NASCAR racing. He asked why the few guys could do that but NASCAR couldn't do that. I mean, pls think a little bit. And if I would have taken the time to explain this to him, I'm certain he would have gotten bent out of shape because I made him realize just how silly his thinking was.Comment -

No shit. If it was easy they would be back already. Doesn't mean they won't get it all figured outComment -

#32Players and coaches would have to be in lockdown mode with guards to keep them from sneaking out for booze, drugs and puzzy. I don't see that working myself. One kid gets sick and dies or infects others, the fallout could take some very complicated turns. Of course, I could be wrong and all of a sudden, specially treated young kids could be trusted while under strict conditions. Not sure that has ever worked before in history.Comment -

#33who is going to monitor the activities and movements of the opposing team when they come to town to play on noon saturday each week. all 150 or so college football programs are going to keep these kids under control at every campus even if some of them aren't even open to regular students. it won't work unless it gets back to normal 100%. road teams are going to want to be fed and housed. they don't fly in the day of the game.Comment -

#34We are not even back to the point where kids can go to school, go to church, go to work.
I think the key to getting through this is to test for the anitbodies/immunity for the virus (not positive or negative for the virus).
If there was segregation (some type of security scan?) the people with the antibody could safely work. But, they could not go back to contact with family or anybody that cannot prove they are immune.
Hey, this is just theory, not saying it would work in reality. But, everything we are doing is just biding time while waiting for a vaccine to happen. BTW, there still is no vaccine for Ebola but H1N1 is in our flu shots.
But, in answer to this thread why should sports have any right to take place when the rest of the world cannot even go out for dinner?Comment -
