i'm thinking I want to jump into Alibaba. It's currently at $248, down 1.57% today. Been going down for the last month. Think this is the right time or hold and wait to buy?

I see a path to test 50 ema at 238-240

There is news today that Amazon is looking to buy the closed Sears and JCP stores --- turning them into "fulfillment centers" which has helped mall reits. Now, I'm on the JCP shareholder list to get updates during the bk. JCP has to make up their mind on which offer to take - there are 4 or 5 offers to buy the co. JCP reported a 500 million dollar better-than-expected cash position in the last month when shopping returned. The plan is to break JCP into 3 entities, a NewCo, A REIT, and a Distribution center.
They own billions in real estate and have a massive distribution center in the midwest. The stock is up today but still only 34 cents. JCPNQ. No guarantees... but it is, I dare say, better than a 50/50 shot that shareholders will get something in cash or new shares post-bk. I also have another new holding. OAS @ .71

What exactly would happen to your shares if amazon bought their centers?

i have always thought that amzn would destroy the shopping malls, then buy them all up and turn them into giant amzn stores

the thing to buy (depending on their earnings report tonight) might be pei-c or pei-d for around $5... those are worth $25 if pei doesn't go bankrupt

well that report from pei was about as ugly as i expected

i'd say maybe a 30% chance that those preferreds get back to 25, hopefully they pay this next dividend but it looks iffy, last quarter they announced payment before the earnings report

Places like Walmart and tech sectors and energy sectors are more profitible now than ever. Retail stuff like Wayfair or Overstock has been crushing it since COVID. Covid ironically saved some of these companies.

there are a lot of weird things going on at the moment, so nothing would surprise me... just think back to the last 5 months... close everything, restrict travel, now there's a coin shortage, make everyone wear a mask, let people riot and loot major cities without being punished, all this bs for a virus that is no more harmful than the flu, so it has to be leading to something

Mike, I did some digging and it looks like SPG is the real estate company who owns the JC penny Sears etc property. I don't know what PEI is?

If amazon takes over, looks like SPG will be the player rewarded, no?

They may come out of bankruptcy. I owned Parker Drilling and when they came out of bankruptcy they gave us a few shares. I have 110,000 shares of VTGDF.They wrote me and said they will never come out of bankruptcy even though they wanted $665 million suit against Petrabas.I hope it works out for you not sure I would owe any reit Til after this is over

I think this may be the day the DOW makes the all time record. Gold is plunging this morning which is actually good, that means I can buy some more. I picked up a little GDX yesterday, I'll pick up some more today along with GLD. NASDAQ is down also, if the QQQs break the 20dma I'm hitting the SQQQs for about 1000 shares for a little bit.

4% cash on everything is pretty unreal. Not sure I've ever seen that.

So, I've been getting 5% (Prime member) for most purchases but not all some 3rd party vendors , free shipping, etc for years. It's a Chase card and it auto deposits into my Fidelity account every time it reaches $50. I also been buying the gift cards at an automatic 2%. Not sure this is on top of the 5 or not. Just be a little cautious as I added $500 gift card last week and they flagged my account as "suspicious activity" and that was a pain. Did a $200 one a few months ago without issue. Deducts it auto at checkout.

I had some major issues 2 years ago and needed to spend a ton. Used the card and got nearly $1300 back.

pei also owns a bunch of shopping malls with jc penney's in them... if amzn takes over all those leases (big long shot) then it essentially saves pei

the common on pei is never really gonna be worth anything, but the preferreds could be a 5-bagger... risky stuff but it's only money

I'm a Prime member which is $99/year (I think?). There's no additional fee at all for Prime users to have the rewards credit card. Normally I only pay for Amazon stuff with the card which gives 5% back on Amazon purchases. Awesome.

But everything else was 1% so I only used it for Amazon buys. But now suddenly it's 4% for everything non-Amazon. Come on, that's huge. Are there any other cards that give 4% on everything??? I won't spend anything additional to use the card instead of a different card. And I'll just buy whatever I would have anyway. Seems like a no-brainer for anyone with Prime (like 50 million already or something?). I charge probably an avg 5k/mo, so that spend will get me back $200/month. Nothing wrong with that! Now that's only for 6 months, I am sure it won't go beyond that. I just think Amazon figures now it's time to get all their Prime users to make their credit card their main card. Get people to change their autopays. And then the rewards credit gets spent on Amazon. More money on Amazon and then you buy even more shit there. Taking over the world. Amazon is ruthless.

Just looked up it's 1% or 2% points. Doesn't hold a candle to 4% Amazon cash. But maybe it only makes sense if you already use Prime.
