The anthem BS doesn't help, but I'm actually thinking about not watching NFL anymore simply because it really has evolved into a trashy product. My love of football had blinded me to the subtle effects of the gradual rule changes over the years and I've been in denial, but I realize now it just isn't the same game that it was and I'm losing interest. I really don't care about the anthem. It's a non issue who stands and who sits. Lots of people do not stand during the anthem. Most photographers are taking pictures. So what? People don't always kneel and pray in church. Nor do they always stand and sing. Why should I get upset over what another man chooses to do? I have no idea what is going on in someones life to tell them what they should do. My father is buried with full military honors. I love this country, but we blow too many things out of proportion. I've never paid attention to people during the anthem. It's not my job to be the anthem cop.
Now, I agree, the product on the field has been more of a turnoff. The games are controlled so much by the refs that it's killed the game. Every play there's a 5 second pause to see if there's a flag. The game is all stop and go. Throw a pass, wait for a flag, no flag, whew. Throw another pass, wait for it, wait for it, wait, phantom flag 5 seconds later. WTF? Then the players have to become actors to embellish in order to draw flags. It's sickening to watch. Then they review and still protect their own and a 2 hour game has been dragged out to 4 hours now. It's like going to play golf. You use to be able to get in 18 holes in 2 hours. The only reason I watch Pro Sports is for gambling. If there was no gambling, i'd never watch NFL, NBA, or MLB. I'll go watch HS football if I want to watch the game.
Goodell has ruined the league. The kneelers are annoying, but the worse thing is simply the game itself. I hate how the theory of the "targeting" penalty, and the QBs are way to protected. The only thing you need to do is either stop watching on TV (which people have - the NFL Ratings are way down) or not go to games - and attendance is down. Looks like the people that are upset with the kneelers or the game itself are making their feelings known.
If the NFL wants to go down the ESPN path of liberalism, they will be a bankrupt league (just like ESPN will be) when the TV deals run out.
It's like any business. Your employees cannot be pissing off the customer base. If they do, the customers will find somewhere else to play. There's consequences for everything. If the NFL wants to support this nonsense, that's their perogative but trying to make a political statement is going to cost them money. Money should be more important than politics, but to people like ESPN it isn't. They'd rather lose money, lose elections, lose everything, before admitting their message is way way off.Comment -
It doesn't matter that they have the voice, it matters that they choose to use that voice during a time dedicated to our military heroes. These guys might as well do this during a funeral or on the scene of a deadly traffic accident.
