Wiring to Gdax or coinbase has a $10 fee plus whatever your bank charges. The alternative I think you are referring to, a credit card purchase, has a fee more like 4%.
Just now I typed in a dummy transaction for .25 BTC and the total charges were $3902.53, $149.74 of which was fees. That's about 4%. If you add to that the 5% the CC charges for an advance (and most cards treat it as an advance I believe) it's getting ridiculous.
If your credit card doesn't treat it as an advance and you get 1 or 2% cashback with purchases it's a good deal but I doubt that's the case very often.
