I've purposely never added up all I've spent on it. I used my guys to do all the framing, I already had the foundation, and I owned the A/C unit from a previous job....and I probably still have in excess of 20k in it counting labor costs and material. The turf and net alone were 5k +.

I walled it primarily to heat and cool. I spray foamed the walls and ceiling, so it should stay pleasant even during the hottest months with minimal A/C. I used a pretty heavy-duty net, so no balls will ever touch the walls, including baseballs. The standard net will catch the hardest hit baseball with about 6-8 inches of slack.

Put it up in shop right? Can employees use it? Figure out total cost and expense that $hit and call it a necessary business expense for employee morale. As long as your guys can use it, you should deduct that. Even if you don't want to do that - let the local high school team players come in some and use it during the summer - make it a donation to the team, or little leagues. Wouldn't take much to figure out commercial cost of renting that nice of a cage, then your contribution amount is just south of there, Lots of ways you can get some tax dollars back on that thing. Am sure you have a good CPA - but if not - lets talk.
