Very excited to have it. Took up an entire bay of my shop, but its worth it. Its a 20 X 60 cage, fully turfed and heated and cooled. Have already used the heat a lot this winter, as we've had quite a bit of cold weather.

My daughter has always been a hard worker improving her game, so I wanted to build her a nice place where she could grind year round. Nothing beats cage work for grooving your swing.

parental/coach word of advice dont over work her, she will quit the sport.

a girl on my daughters travel volleyball team dad pushes her like crazy she is very good made the jv team as a 7th grader her school was going to put her on varsity and her dad said no because he wanted her to get the playing time at jv first then next year she will play varsity. she told her dad this weekend that she wants to quit she doesnt enjoy it any more because he pushes her too much. girl is 13 years old has a pitching coach batting coach and a strength trainer. let her enjoy the sport if she wants it bad enough she will do what it takes but the more you push her you will drive her away

It's absolutely perfect, just like you Opie. We all wish we were your daughter. I often prance around my house with a little girl's dress on and take selfie's with a picture of you at my side. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Opie?? I know what your doing here your forcing your child to like a sport, she hates softball chief. Secondly you cannot make someone good, I did not like her swing in that last video, too much of hitch so she will never get rid of that and not hit the fast pitch. Opie she likes soccer you know, this girl is not happy playing softball. I would stop pushing her or she will end up a cheerleader and rebelling, man I cannot stand dads like you thinking your going to tell them what to like with zero choice. Les tear it down please and let her play soccer.

Opie, it would have been cheaper to hire a poor person to be on call and to pitch to her whenever she chooses. At such an early age, you don't want her hitting to conform to a machine--timing, delivery, etc.

So many posters at SBR would submit their resumes and be willing to be paid in betpoints. Seaweed comes to mind.

Rarely ever use the machine. Just got it to break up the routine once in a while.

We do tee work more than anything else. I'm a big believer that it is the absolute best way to improve your swing. Also mix in quite a bit of soft toss drills and usually some front toss.

What's the point of the netting a few inches away from the plywood walls? To make it seem like it's outside?

Looks awesome though, would've loved to have that when I was younger, hell even now.

Great stuff, Opie. I have a daughter on the way and I am looking forward to supporting her in whatever activity she takes up, though I can't help but hope she takes up softball.

                                      Listen to this prikk.

Texas produces the 2nd highest number of D1 recruits behind California. Basically only months we have off is a short period in December/January.

You live in flippin' Texas!! What kind of cold weather are you talking about?!

The set up looks awesome though and I bet she loves it!! Five years ago I would've been laughing my ass off at the ridiculousness of it - go to a friggen school field! - but my rugrat is starting proper AFL in a couple of weeks and somehow managed to have a full size footy ground built for him on his dad's property so we can all "practice properly". And I secretly love it although I'll never admit it to him. As long as the kids love it and it's not pushy parents syndrome then it's all good in my books.

A friend of mine in HS had a batting cage in his backyard. We spent alot of time there. Fond memories.

                                              Lucky kid...

Most kids today are lucky to have a dad, let alone one that builds them batting cages...

The only way his kid will quit is if she sucks... I'm pretty sure Opie has enough common sense to know if she's got it or not by now...

Looks awesome though, would've loved to have that when I was younger, hell even now.

Net is 14' wide, so its not as close to the walls as it appears(overall cage width is 20'). The net keeps the balls from ever hitting the walls, so you have no ricochets or anything. I suspended the netting on cables, so whenever we want to work on defense we can simply roll it back and have a 20 X 60 turfed surface to work on for defense.

Completely agree. Constant practice in a cage against a machine makes you a great batting cage hitter, but ur timing and comfort level is fukked against a real pitcher. She is a girl though so it's not like she's going to lose out on millions from MLB, so you and her will have fun with it.
