You kidding me, if they play a single major conference team that has a decent coach they will get the same thing that happened to them tonight. They let some guy who was probably the 3rd best player on his high school team dominate them.

No debate, 22 wins from a mid major and a .595 RPI gets you an at large bid.
              No debate.

You don't know this, this tourney will be the most wide open in the history of the tourney.
As a rule guard play and defense wins tourney games, and Akron has an elite shot blocker in the middle and two very smart guards in
                  Walsh and Abreu.

The two aforementioned gurards have better than a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio which is very solid. Overall Akron is in the upper 10 percent in the country in assists.

Having said that, Akron could get bounced in the first round, or could get to the sweet 16.
It's wide open, but to say they will do Zip, is well, ignorant, Indiana could get bounced on the opening weekend as well, wouldn't be the first (or last) time a 'big boy' didn't make it out of the first weekend, it's happened to Duke, Syracuse, UConn, etc. etc. etc. in the past.

Conversely, it wouldn't be the first time a mid major (like Butler) went to the final four.

But know this, when handicapping tourney games, you start with the guards. That's NCAA tourney 'capping 101, start with the guards and handicap down. Just like in baseball, start with pitchers, and handicap down.

                  Your welcome.

So you think Akron has an at large bid locked up already? If they lose to Ohio in MAC tournament I would say its questionable honestly, but it would be good for the MAC. Would be first time since 99 (Wally world) that they get 2 schools in. I do like Akron's squad but I also like Ohio's and think they get revenge in MAC tourney for the 2 regular season losses. Ohio and DJ Cooper win like last year and go dancing. Just an opinion.

There have been teams with better profiles and more wins who did not make it.

                      Like 30 win teams.

Maybe win a game and that's a stretch. Refs always whistle for the big name teams.

                            Drexel/Oral Roberts 27-6, finished with 29 wins.
                            Cleveland State 26-8
                            Coastal Carolina 28-6

Utah State was 25-3 and ranked in the top 25 and did not get in. I thought they were closer to 30 wins but anyway that's only 3 losses and ranked.

If Akron losses they will have 6 losses and similar to the teams that missed out. The comittee can be a bitch when they feel like it.
