By drafting a player the club that drafts said player retains his rights for one year. If a player does not sign with the team that drafted him, his rights go back into the following year's draft. Bo Jackson was drafted by the Bucaneers and refused to sign with them. Then he was re-drafted a year later. The Chargers got some nice pieces for Eli, and it's easy to second guess their decision in hindsight.Comment -

#39I am not a fan, but he is easily a top 10 QB in the league and I can make a valid argument that he is top 5. Breaking down his statistical output over the years strongly supports this.
There is variance with any athletic performance and it doesn't help to have his RT out soo much this season and no top 20 league WRs to throw to. His RB's are by committee, no top 20 talent there either. Gates is his best target by far, and he is getting old, spent last year hampered with injuries.
Rivers had an off night, something that rarely happens to him, but happens to all QB's at some frequency. That said this SD team is not nearly as good as Denver, they weren't last year and both teams are gradually going in opposite directions. This game probably should have been 42-21, without all those early game fumbles and literally stumbling on the way to the endzone only to have the drive end in an INT returned for a TD.Comment -

#41That's a ridiculous argument. You don't have any knowledge of what Eli Manning would or would not have done.

#42bo had a career in baseball to fall back on, he didn't need football. eli only had 1 career path: football. mannings know how important rookie season is to the development of a qb and would never had held out for the entire season. to draft him defiantly against the mannings wishes then to cave in immediately and trade him was a pussy move that they have dearly paid for.Comment -

#43Maybe these commentators will stop sucking his dick every game now. All you hear is what a talent he is and all he does is do stupid shit when it counts. Maybe this will convince these commentators to shutup about him.Comment -

#44Was so glad Steve Young called him out after the game after suffering through Gruden washing his balls and blaming everybody else the whole farking game. Real scrutiny will start when his daddy Norv finally gets shipped after this season.Comment -

#48Ben, Eli are the two top dogs in the draft. Rivers is not as bad as he was on MNF(and trust me, he was actually worse than what the stats show), but he is still not a bust though SD should have held on to Brees and gone for other return.
SD did get back a lot in return for Eli. Merriman, Rivers and a first rounder for a QB who at the time was comparable to Eli. Their main problem was with coaching , not Rivers himself. Sure Rivers can do better, but SD has bigger problems
Is Rivers in the same league as Ben and Eli, no. But he is in the next level.Comment -

One of the surprising things this year has been the almost complete fail of Meachem and Royal or at least getting the ball to them.
Letting Brees go was more complicated and I remember that there was only one other team (Miami?) with interest in him near the money that he wanted .... he ended up in the perfect place for him and never would have had the same stats in the S.D. system.
The thing with Rivers now though is that if you are going to purge your organization, assuming they keep losing, it's going to be tough to decide whether to get rid of him too. I think he can still play well but not in the system he is in. It'll be interesting ... the Chargers need much more than a new QB ....Comment -
