Nailed it. His O-line can't protect him and he's scared to step into the throw. Honestly, Rivers is an average QB, but even an average QB needs time to throw.

they didnt have to do squat. mannings told sd not to draft him and they did so anyways. they could have forced him to sign or sit out and lose millions. eli would have signed.

In hindsight it was a mistake, but remember, Brees was coming off of shoulder surgery when the Saints signed him. In fact, only two teams were pursuing Brees, Miami and New Orleans. Hard to fault the Chargers for not re-signing a guy, who at the time was a question mark.
