CK's CFL Season Thread 2008-2009 Season

The gridiron is ready to be run at ength and collisions galore with football north of the border. There are not that many games to really get into because this season runs into the NCAA and NFL seasons a bit, but in the meantime it will satisfy my urge to sling some dough on football.

On Wednesday July 1st, we have the Futility Bowl between the hapless Argos and the equally inept Alouettes. On tap also is a re-hash of the Grey Cup finalsits from last year Hamilton and Calgary. Calgary took the whole enchilada last year, so it is obvious that all teams will be gunning for them, and putting forth their best effort.

Because they Stampede won last year's big prize, they automatically fall into a coategory where we can fade any team that beats them the following week, and completely nail the wood if that team is on the road and favored, slam the door shut if the other team is a home dog playing on a different surface than the team that beat Calgary. It may sounda little complicated, but it's not.

Calgary is an autofade week 1 playing the team they defeaed to win the championship. That's a given. So I will start the year off by wagering against them in game1, hoping that Hamilton wins setting up a nice spurt to start the year!

The line is not out yet, but I have a line of Calgary-4.5 with rescoring. They may wn, but it won't be by a touchdown. It takes a couple of games to get a rushing attack well oiled. It won't happen in this game



Another tidbit... Anytime that Edmonton or Calgary or any grass surface team are home and catching points take them!

Now from everything that I know bout football, I can gain insight into what type of team Calgary will be this year by simply fading them in their first game. If they lose that game as i indicated, it sets up a whole lot of possibities for at least 4 straight weeks of domino effect on the teams that play in the chain. So I automatically am fading them week 1 and taking the Montreal squad to get it done. Both teams play onfield turf so there's no advantage there.

As far as the other game is concerned,

You almost always have to take a home dog when two sorry ass teams are playing. This ame fits the criteria.The home dog is the call in this one, especially in week one when people are looking for chicken dinners!

Personally since I fully believe that Edmonton will be a surprise team this year with the changes that they have made.The defense will be more risk oriented, and the offense will be more balanced with running. Winnipeg has no chance in this one. The Eskimos pla yon natural grass while the Blue Bombers play on field turf. Taking the chalk in this one.

i live in wpg and would like to give my 2cents on wpg+9.5;;

wpg got a COMPLETE overhaul;; 30 new players;; new qb;; same receivers save 1;; nasty front 7 pass rush with a couple of additions;; newer O-line;;

qb stefan lefors was aquired from edm; edm lost best reciever kcampbell to nfl;;
wpg also got new head coach from edm(assistant) but he was in wpg in mid 90's

if qb lefors can avoid int's wpg might win this game;;; sorry ck but it would require a complete collapse from wpg for edm to cover -9.5;;

it might happen but i don't expect wpg to collapse;; they have practiced on natural grass all week here and they should lose this game but by no more than 4-7 points

I think I'll sit on the sidelines for week one and just watch the action. That way I can get a feel for who came to play and who didn't, without anything at risk. Yu really can't tell anything from pre-season games.

Too much turnover is not good. Winnipeg has an unknown at quarterback (unless you followed Louisville football)Edmonton rolls in ths one making it a laugher by the third quarter.

I'm not all the way sold on the Hamilton game. I know for sure that I am gonna play Montreal to break the hex that the Stamps have on them. Trestman will figure out a way to get it done in this game. Edmonton is also gonna get played no matter what.

I grew up in Hamilton ... If there's one thing I can tell you about the TiCats -- it's that they are absolutely terrible, no matter what. I personally teased the under.

Hamilton last 3 years season openers:
Totals: 43, 46, 44
Hamilton Pts: 10, 9, 17

Hamilton last 3 years home-openers:
Totals: 43, 35, 46
Hamilton Pts: 10, 5, 14

Just look at those numbers. Look at them. I was at most of those home games and all I can say is wow was I drunk. Nobody cares or expects the team to win so home field is literally of no advantage. In fact, at one point last season or maybe it was the season before, Hamilton went 5 games without throwing an offensive touchdown at home. 5 games.

Hamilton has been outscored 97-36 in their last 3 season openers and 95-29 in their last 3 home openers (one game overlaps). All 5 of these games have been well below tomorrow's number. Will the trend reverse? Doubt it. Stick to the under if you're not sure.
