Stefan LeFors (former Eskimo) now starting QB for WIN preseason stats:
"Lots of people are curious about how we'll do," said LeFors, who was 1-1 in the pre-season, looking good in Game 1, a 32-22 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, in which he was five-of-eight for 98 yards. He tapered off in a 31-27 defeat to the Montreal Alouettes, where he was just 9-of-29 for 145 yards and an interception.
- No big feat playing well against the TiCats. Only 9-for-29 against a much better defensive team in Montreal.

EDM dominant in pre-season action
However, EDM's starting QB Ray didn't play in the first of 2 preseason games, and played only 1/2 of the second preseason game and was removed after a painful late hit. He is expected to be fine for today's game.

- Current WIN coach Mike Kelly coached EDM's receivers last year (much of EDM's game was a passing one)
- EDM receivers were among the best in the league last year, but now their running game has improved with the addition of TiCat Jesse Lumsden. This will surely change the dynamics of EDM's game. They ran the ball 3 times in last year's Eastern final.

Rookie head coach Richie Hall, coming over from eight years as Saskatchewan's defensive coordinator, took one look at his new defence (third worst in the CFL last season) and immediately ordered changes. Eight guys are out.

Lots of things to consider in this game. Two teams with lots of overlapping players/staff. Two rookie coaches. Two rookie receivers for EDM who were first in passing last year. Not sure how that would affect the over/under, but EDM at -8.5 seems too large. With a revamped defense in EDM, plus EDM's former offensive receiving coordinator now being bench boss of WIP, defense could be a big factor in this game and maybe the early lean is the under. I'm new to CFL though so I'm not sure what to make of all this info.

You mean to tell me that the Eskimos are going to start two rookie corners, AND rookie wide receivers? With so many changes and so on and so such, it will be almost impossible for the Eskimos to blow this team out and vice versa. I see a lot of two and outs in this one. LeFors is not an established quarterback, and while I see him moving the ball against the youngins' I don't see drives that will consistently end in touchdowns. But whatever the shit, the guy must know some goodies about this team as he used to play there. Will that be enough? Panekkk, we are about to find out. Grab your nuts! We're either going to give it all back or we're gonna be happy men at the end of the day!

The line is too large, and has reverse movement on it. With 71% of bettors on thir side the line went down from -9.5 to -8.5. Winnipeg may or may not be a good team but the steam has to be followed in this case, and I will have to jump ship. Edmonton wins but only by a touchdown or less. They have not had this kind of fan fare to open a season in a couple of years

This baby goes under, and we take the Blue Bombs! Rookie receivers NEVER get off of the line in their first games! We'll take the steam and ride with the dog. The Eskimos have a horrid record in openers. Why not?

I'm good with the under. I have NO idea how Winnipeg keeps this one close, tho'. Lefors hasn't started a game since 2007, and when he did it was as backup to Ricky Ray in Edmonton when Ricky was on the DL. Actually Lefors started 5 games that year, and lost all 5. Last year Lefors played in 1 game, went 1 for 4 for 9 whole yards. Just sayin'.... BOL to all.

Yeah, I'm still iffy on picking a side. I teased WPG to 14.5 to keep it within two TD's. It'll stay close if the total stays low. WPG's coach is EDM's old passing coordinator so it's not impossible to think that WPG will at least shut down EDM's passing game, or at least keep it in check. LeFors also watched Ray all year last year so that should add to some defensive insights. EDM's D is also totally revamped so I'm liking the under more and more.

chipper, sometimes you have to follow the steam. Winnipeg has the steam despite only 33% of bettors being on their side. The line started off at 9.5, and is now down to 8. What more do you want? The line was way off to begin with obviously. The under is a good looking pick, but the side must look good to me. You NEVER see me switch sides on a wager unless the steam is too hard to ignore like in this matchup
