A couple words on a game nobody cares about…

McNeese St blew a 7 point 2h lead with <2min to go @NC Central just two weeks ago. Rematch tonight and the Cowboys have now had over a week prep after their 3game road trip @SMU, @NCC, and @Miss St where Lamar Peters went 8/13 from 3 and lead the bulldogs on 19-0 run to pull away from McNeese after the Cowboys hung tough for ~30min.

Both teams have very experienced lineups, the majority of tonight’s starters are upperclassmen who are familiar with tonight’s matchup. NCC has put together 3 straight wins vs. McNeese over last 2 seasons – I’d expect the battle tested Cowboys (#2 relative SOS in D1 per Kenpom) are hungry for some revenge. Per Haslametrics, McNeese is successfully taking advantage of mid-range FGAs this year (making 43% of mid-range FGA which ranks 39^th in the country). At the same time, NCC’s biggest defensive weakness is limiting opponents mid-range field goals. They rank as one of the worst D1 teams in defensive mid-range FG% also per Haslametrics. Major concern for McNeese is keeping NCC off the offensive glass but they made out alright in their first meeting this season. Should play at snail’s pace but I give the edge to McNeese at home during an unpredictable finals week.

A side note that probably has no effect on tonight’s game but certainly has shaken up NC Central’s athletic department – yesterday, NCAA upheld its decision to vacate all NCC’s basketball wins between 2012-2015 due to violations. A distraction? Not sure.
