Big South Tournament Futures
This conference looks wide open and the futures tell you the same as the preseason favorite, but lackluster regular season team - Charleston Southern has the 2nd lowest price. The team with the best conference mark - High Point is +650. If you look at the conference results, you can see why this is hard to call as a lot of the games where tight between teams that finished between 1st and 4th in both divisions. On top of that, you still have last year's tournament champ - Liberty in the mix even though they have a lot of work to do as the 5th seed in the South after a 6-10 regular season. Tournament plays at Coastal Carolina's gym, so you might give them a small advantage - but not enough to justify the favorite's tag to me. I'm willing to take a High Point club that has won six straight and proved to be tough against all comers. VMI's pace is fun to watch, although their defense is also prone to giving up large points totals. Still, I like their draw and they could match-up against a Coastal Carolina team in the semis that they dominated for a half before completely unraveling in the 2nd half of their regular season in a five point loss. Half a unit on both and see what happens.

Yeah. I had combed over several of their games and that was their M.O. in quite a few. Keep it reasonably close in the 1st and then lose it in the 2nd. We'll see how it goes. Would be nice to even up on the day and not dig out of a bigger hole.Comment -

Patriot League Tournament Futures
Boston was the class of the league with a 15-3 mark, but from 1st to 6th, all those teams played Boston tough with Bucknell, Lehigh and American scoring those three wins. Impressively, both Bucknell and Lehigh did it on BU's home floor where the Terriers will be this whole tournament as the top seed. The home court adantage has been a good omen that has treated the #1 seeds well through the history of this format in the Patriot League. The No. 1 seed has never lost before the Patriot League Championship and is 17-0 in the quarterfinals. Boston could be in for a tough road though with Bucknell potentially in their way in the semis if the Bison beat Army to open.
Bucknell comes in hot as the defending tournament champions with six straight wins, including that one over BU on the road. The Bison sport the Player of the Year in senior Cameron Ayers who will be counted on for offense with the team playing stifling defense all year. They ranked 2nd in the league to American in PPG allowed. They are also the best FT shooting team in the league and deadly on the offensive glass. Having beaten BU on their home floor and losing by just three in the other meeting, this team won't be intimidated and could make noise as the #4 seed. Bucknell's coach knows how to get his team to the finish line in this event, having made the final three straight years with two Championships.
American is the 2nd seed and Holy Cross the 3rd in the bottom of the bracket. American stumbled some down the stretch, losing five of their last eight. Holy Cross is a real Al Davis type, Just Win Baby. They had a tough time against both Boston U. & American as they went 0-4 against the top two seeds. They might need help to win, but that's not impossible. Colgate matches American well and could eliminate the two seed and as I laid out, Boston U. is not invincible up top in the bracket.
History is against big upsets in this tournament as the 1-2 have met in the Final three of the last five years. The three seed has two Championship game appearances in that span as well. The #1 seed. For me though, I sense the #1 does not win this year as BU really got pushed down the stretch even in winning two of three. Half a unit on these two.

West Coast Conference Tournament Futures
It's rarely not been the Gonzaga Invitational in this tournament as the Zags take the top seed here again. They have at minimum made the Championship Game 16 straight years. That makes them a must look for Futures, even @ -120. 2nd place went to BYU who actually tied with a 13-5 mark with San Francisco, but gets the 2nd seed by defeating the Dons twice. SF for their good record, could not beat the top two clubs. They lost all four meetings with BYU & Gonzaga. St.Mary's is a distant 4th, crushed by Gonzaga in both meetings. Most agree they have underachieved this season and they do have the talent to make some noise, but have lacked overall consistency and defense especially away from home. Gonzaga has a nice draw with Pacific or Santa Clara to open and then perhaps a third meeting with St.Mary's in the semis if the Gaels get past Pepperdine. It would be shocking to not see the Zags back in the Final again as a result. BYU will have Portland or Loyola Marymount and then either SF or San Diego. Both Portland and Loyola Marymount did hand BYU road losses this season, so that might be the tougher match-up in route to the Championship Game. BYU is trying to make an at-large bid case with a solid RPI & SOS, but they do have some bad losses this season that could keep them from making the field. I think they'd rather control their destiny and win this tournament to leave all the questions off the table on Selection Sunday. Gonzaga risking 1.2 units to win one. BYU risking 0.25 unit.I feel confident about Gonzaga here and you should have a chance to add more BYU if you choose as a hedge if they make the Championship game, albeit at a much lower price than this future.
