#4342Hey , I was just typing in another thread and the name Rudy Rodriguez came up, it sent my mind to trainers I haven’t seen during all this... I’d be upset laying up my horses for $100 a day , not getting a run, and there’s many trainers coming to mind now ...
Speaking of laying up, Untitled’s half brother my buddy owns , he was over today and Kenny McPeek called. He cutting the lay up fee from casse’s $110 - $80 and be 50/50 partners after his tendon heels.
When they bred the horse , worked right with untitled , I’m like a kid in a candy shop , listening to him receive a call from Mr. McPeek, & then call Mr. Casse.
But I got off track, anyway, these barns that aren’t shipping to run, should us handicappers , receive them different than a normal layoff? I would think a healthy horse on layoff , can hurt their progress when coming back...Comment -

#4344This one is better bred, thAn untitled, on the farm in Florida , Brent and mike couldn’t decide which one was better. But Mr. McPeek said even if this one is half of untitled they will make money.
The tendon issue , should be fine in 2 months , had surgery several months ago
I have workout videos on my old phone , between those two...
Let me see if I can access thoseComment -

ok if you can figure it out do it.. untitled is an exciting prospect.. I looked back in the female family (let me say I'm no expert, just find it interesting).. the 2nd dam is a full sib and a half to sib to two major horses and was not a bad runner herself.. some real pedigree power thereComment -

A. I have to think it is great to hear exactly what matters and what is discussed. I liken it to when some of the Orioles or Yankees would talk about the game for a minute and I was right there listening. I could have listened to that stuff all day and forgot to saddle my horses. Lol.
Your love and passion for the game clearly shows. It's great to see !
" these barns that aren’t shipping to run, should us handicappers , receive them different than a normal layoff? I would think a healthy horse on layoff , can hurt their progress when coming back..."
A. I have to think they are all playing on a level playing field so I would expect the trainers that are better off the layoff to be a tad bit better for a race or so than the ones that do not put a lot of pressure on them in the AM . And, anyone shipping back from Fla.or Oaklawn that have run during this time off should have a slight edge for that 1st race back.
Hope that makes sense.Comment -

Just follow the trainer around all day and see how it works.
You would love every minute of it. Like Disneyland to a 10 year old.Comment -

Vinnie saw him walking a horse to the paddock of mine in 95 . He couldn't believe what he saw. Vinnie and I had gotten to know one another pretty well. He asked to do a human interest article about it and I said ok.
I could have found a groom that could work faster and probably better but I would still be looking if I was trying to find a groom with more heart and conviction.
By 1995, things had changed in my life. Things had occured in my family and I had grown up and was a father of three.Comment -

#4374hey str
I like a horse in the last race at gulfstream..it's a mcl 16k on the turf going 8.5f..jockey is 15% going back to beginning of 2019 but having a horrible gulfstream (lots of 2nds though)..he's getting on a horse for the first time dropping from a msw turf route also at 8.5f..if he runs that race (looks bad on paper)vs this field he's a major contender with the drop..but juarez is 1 for his last 42 with turf mounts..the colony of turf riders as a whole is very weak here after you get by irad and saez..my point is believe this is a well spotted live horse if he gets a good ride..do you think if juarez feels this way knowing his overall awful turf record he'll be more focused and motivated than he might normally be ..like "i'm having a bad meet and not a good turf jock but I'd really like to beat those guys in a bad field with a horse who has a shot on the drop..does this make any sense lolComment -

Ortiz had to check for a second and Saez realized that the horse was not comfortable there. The horse was more focused on the tightness and not on his rider, Ortiz, and his commands. So Saez tried his best to keep the horse in that tight spot by pinning Ortiz to take away any room for the stick and make the 6 horse run while thinking about the 7 horse and feeling claustrophobic instead of the race, winning, or the commands of Ortiz, his rider.
Ortiz had to stand up and knife the horse up and down but that was not to move up IMO as much as it was to get the horse to focus on running again. You could see the apprehension in the 6 horse but Ortiz got the horse back to focussing on commands instead of the horse outside. Saez realizing this takes a last chance by bumping him just enough right as they turn for home. But Ortiz has his horse back running again. Once the horse gets maybe a nose in front he switches leads late, but he does switch and immediately starts inching by the 7. Once he is about 1 length in front nearing the wire, Ortiz puts the bit in the back of his horses mouth and you can see his ears go up right away.
The horse was by far the best. And, he gained a ton of experience in that race. No doubt Ortiz is special. Not many riders that could have gotten that horses attention at the 5/16's pole like he did.
That was reminiscent of the old Cordaro days. Only the best of the best can ride like that and be safe doing it. You just cannot see that at a lesser venue. I give lots of credit to both jocks.
I have to think both riders talked about that afterwards. Can't think Ortiz was mad and he should not have been. Saez did his job. He did everything he could to win . Very cool race to watch.Comment
