#9557I honestly think even an allowance at oaklawn would be tough for her..you know the kind of horses they get in there at that track..probably one at lrl would be a perfect fit but that's not practical for a midwest trainer..not ruling her out but to me even an open alw is a challenging spot after winning a restricted msw at a big trackOriginally posted by JBEXdon't know from firsthand experience like you would but even as a handicapper I realize this is a very talented "young" filly and let's not rush things .. be grateful you have the horse to work with and give her the best chance to possibly develop into something very goodComment -

#9558DO moved kind of soon but maybe you had to with the rail opening and her wanting to go..must have been a real heavy track when you compare the fractions to the stakes she was in 2 races back..even factoring that was a stake vs today being an allowance..have to think she's nicely conditioned to cut back a half to one furlong next out

#9560When the jockey looked back at the top of the stretch ... that's normally a sign that he has plenty of horse... still ran well though! I agree with the next out race.Originally posted by JBEXDO moved kind of soon but maybe you had to with the rail opening and her wanting to go..must have been a real heavy track when you compare the fractions to the stakes she was in 2 races back..even factoring that was a stake vs today being an allowance..have to think she's nicely conditioned to cut back a half to one furlong next out

#9565one other horse I like in the wisconsin gal race (laurel R8)..#6 not too late (6-1)..think off the rail and cutting back 7 to 6f could put her in a good spot considering how good she ran 4 and 5 starts back .. the race following those was a mile stakes and maybe that was too farComment -

#9567IDK Jbex. I guess I had a real respect when I saw horses of mine reach deep for an effort. They all did not do that. And I was never really upset that they did not. Maybe I wished they did but they were who they were. Just like people. But when they did, and I knew what they were trying to overcome to do that, I really appreciated it. For me, it was special and something of a bond or pact that I created with some of them in my head. I guess that is lost on some people. Too bad because they do not know what they are missing. It's a feeling you can't see, and it is hard to explain, but it is something that was really cool to feel and made my job all that much more rewarding for me.Comment -

#9580I guess I go back to that quote that John Tammaro Sr. said when he talked about " a matter of placement". The horse has run more winning efforts than he has winning races where it was beaten by more than a horse or two. That cannot be on the horse. And sure, you never know who is going to be in any race prior to entering in most cases. But... one of the most important jobs of a trainer trying to win races is to have as clear an idea as they can as to who might be in that upcoming race.Originally posted by JBEXwell I certainly can't be too critical after posting this but I do understand the obvious knocks on race selection since she broke her maiden ..seems like it might be a good idea to give her at least a short breather to reset and start fresh

Another thing I always respected was the horses mental side. That is clearly why I am so smitten with these Army Mules. Everyone of them tries it seems. No doubt Wisconsin Gal will run her race today. I think you could line her up on Interstate -95 and she would run her butt off. It just seems to me that if you run them with so much against them in certain spots, you as the trainer are being detrimental to the given that she will run her guts out and I would kick myself in the butt if I did not hold up my end of the bargain.Comment -

#9581Sure. This has come out and done what most of them do. She has run the exact same figure in both starts on two different surfaces about 1000 miles apart. So what I can't wrap my head around here is why on earth would you take a 19k purchase which tells me there must be a confirmation flaw severe enough that the horse did not even bring its stud fee when auctioned off, see that horse has talent, and want to make the choice to run against Mott baby who can clearly run or he would not be training it, the 3 horse who cost 150k., the 4 who cost a 1/2 a million and the Saffie horse that cost 335k?Originally posted by JBEXby army mule ..gulfstream R7 #5 human desire (8-1)

Same old argument so I will stop. But if the 2, 5 and 6, who were all very inexpensive, ran at Tampa Bay in a MSW they would probably run 1,2,3. Certainly the Army Mule would be right there.
And if any of those three I mentioned that were inexpensive do win, is the Hutchinson the next stop?
As for your comment, I give this one a shot as well. Don't think I could ever totally eliminate an Army Mule. And if I did, I would be worried about that during the entire race. They are special JBEX and I know you already know that.Comment -

#9583I think that for now on, so I don't sound more like a broken record than I already have, if I say looks like she will be 8-1 or higher, that's code for, "I wish she was in a softer spot but no doubt she will give it her best."Originally posted by strLol. #9584I think you have to give her a shot vs allowance horses in Kentucky but have a hunch she's a level below that ..I think high claimer n2l or allowance company at a mid level track will be where she's effective ..would guess there's some broodmare value built up already alsoOriginally posted by strI guess I go back to that quote that John Tammaro Sr. said when he talked about " a matter of placement". #9585is ambitious placement but the Woodbine debut was very good..probably need that last race with only 1 work in-between starts and sure he got some good conditioning from that ..Tyler takes the mount which is another good sign..I guess they want to explore vs better first before dropping to mcl if necessary..not to keep praising AM but just the fact these trainers are trying tough spots with modestly priced horses is a bit of a tip of the cap to the sire imoOriginally posted by strSure. #9586I thought his first race was really good! Tyler a positive no doubt. And yeah, sometimes they want to explore better early. The other side of the coin is like when you hear about teams trying to instill a winning culture. Same thing can go with a horse, a barn, a trainer, etc. If that horse, the workers, everybody feels and sees that, it can be infectious and certainly it can carry over to the riders and the entire room. Everybody wants to give your horse a look and maybe try and ride. Everybody stays just a few minutes longer. The winning attitude thing cannot be overstated. It even carries over to the vets and the feed man believe it or not. It's fun to be a part of.Originally posted by JBEXis ambitious placement but the Woodbine debut was very good..probably need that last race with only 1 work in-between starts and sure he got some good conditioning from that ..Tyler takes the mount which is another good sign..I guess they want to explore vs better first before dropping to mcl if necessary..not to keep praising AM but just the fact these trainers are trying tough spots with modestly priced horses is a bit of a tip of the cap to the sire imo

#9590In Limbo is having it's second run late Friday night your time. I'll post details when the field is set.Originally posted by strHi Opti,
So sorry to hear what your brother is dealing with. We all wish him nothing but the best. Sounds like his horse ran well.
And I see where they post all changes for the public including bit changes. That is really good stuff. Don't know why they don't do it in the U.S. They should.
You said it perfectly Opti. 3rd pays for lunch. I like that.
Thanks for the heads up.
Thought I would post the trainers audio update. Never heard him say anything as positive as "she will be hard to beat" before!
Opened at 5/1 on futures markets. I'm tempted to bet bigger than I normally would this time.
The Widden Stakes is an Australian Turf Club Group 3 Thoroughbred horse race, for two-year-old fillies, held with set weights with penalties conditions, over a distance of 1100 metres at Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney, Australia in February.[1] Total prize money for the race is A$160,000.
BTW my brothers intensive chemo went better than could have been hoped. His overall prognosis long term is sketchy still, but short medium term looking way more positive than it was when i mentioned him before the last race
