WR showed a new dynamic there!.... able to find some room and close....You could see Prat looking to his right around the far turn.... hoping to find a spot to shift outside.... Not your normal Prat ride.... Paco Lopez yes... Flavien no...

Caldera turned in a very stellar breeze from the gate this morning at Churchill Downs with jockey Jaime Torres aboard. He worked inside of an unnamed Union Rags colt who he has worked with before. Caldera stumbled a tiny bit in the first few jumps, but quickly recovered and from that point his mate struggled to keep up. Caldera was credited with a half in :49.20, while his workmate was clocked in :49.40. He galloped out very nicely and the barn was very happy with what he showed in his first gate work.
While this was not another blazing-fast breeze like Caldera’s prior recorded works, that is of no concern whatsoever. He was not asked to go that fast, and we already know he’s very fast. Learning how to relax and then finish is just as important for a young horse as speed is (if not more so), and it’s just not realistic or even desirable for a horse to fire a bullet every single time they work.
This was definitely another positive step in Caldera’s development and preparation.

Real Savvy had a solid work this morning according to assistant trainer Miguel Clement, covering five furlongs in 1:03.99 over the Oklahoma dirt track at Saratoga. He breezed in company with multiple stakes-winning stablemate and champion New York-bred female turf horse Silver Skillet.
Equipped this morning with an Arioneo device, which collects cardio, locomotion, and GPS data during the work, your son of Authentic reached a max speed of 38.8 MPH and max heart rate of 208. He completed his quickest three furlongs in :36.50 and half in :50.25.

Nice to see that World Record was able to rate, albeit inside which is tough for a horse like him. Excellent effort overall.

Hard to believe this horse has drawn inside for every race. If he had drawn outside for every race, he would be a stalker. The post makes you do certain things but give credit to the horse for being able to follow instructions from the rider and keep his composure.

Oh man Batt. You are killing me with these memory flash backs. Just kidding, they are very much appreciated. Never did that at Pimlico as it was dangerous and difficult to be back at the gate where it was positioned when on foot.
But Bowie ? God yes ! I learned so very much from my travels back there early in my carrier. I did not know anything about the gate process when I started training. Those guys especially Danny Fitchett and Donnie Willingham, two of the very best I ever saw, taught me sooooo much about gate work and what THEY wished trainers would do to help their horses be better prepared. I followed their advise to the letter with great results. I won more than just a few races because of their expertise. So fun to drive up to the gate area and be standing right there just feet from the gate. Another heart squeeze.

100% agree with the bold type. You work for the show but you run for the dough. Most races start at the 1/4 pole.

looked like in about the first 10 or 11 seconds of the race prat gave up on the idea of getting the lead..do you think the energy put in to trying might have taken a little something out of him late in the race ? it's different than just settling in from the beginning and knowing that's the strategy

agree with you if his average post was around the middle there would have probably been more stalking efforts in his races

side note .. churchill has an amazing opening day card on 10/27 featuring ALL 2yo races !!
sprints,routes,turf (for restricted and open msw) allowance and of course stakes ..maybe we'll see "caldera" then batt .. many other spots later in the meet of course

excited to see him run batt .. I think the liam's map and understanding the name reference combined is really amazing! .. "witchcraft" lol

I will have to give a shout out to "Michael Behrens " CEO of MRH... in the Facebook blogs he has been real active in answering questions ,sharing things with people just getting into the "game" and understanding the financials... especially with STG with what he is doing. He could easily shut down with the 1000's of owners constantly asking basic questions( even though we try to jump in first and sometimes it works) and he has a life ....lol

Owner participation in this type of thing is so important. Taking the time to answer questions is vital in this type of setup.
Glad to see they do it. It makes a difference I would imagine. Nobody wants to put up money and have no idea what's going on. That gets boring quickly.
It's a very smart business model IMO.

yes I meant mountaineer park ..confused because of same state ..often full fields and are fun races to bet ..shows it's a good spot for a lot of horses

would have to think the big picture with my racehorse is to get horses who wind up being stallions .. my guess is over time and in the future they will have a pretty good batting avg with this..mean around 20% would be excellent imo .. then imagine when that happens it becomes a huge roi

1 post going 7/8ths is real tough especially for a firster. Rick does not crank them up to the moon as you know so probably a good one to watch for subtle signs knowing no mater today's result , this horse will be better in race 2 and better still in race 3.
