Why doesn't horse racing eliminate the "added weight" factor
As a fan of the sport I want to see who the fastest horse is and not have to wonder is this one faster cause its carrying 8lbs less. What should that have to do with anything?

I understand they have it to even out things handicapping wise but lets face it, prices are prices and value is value. Zenyatta's owner mentioned the extra weight with her having to carry may have been a slight problem. That is so dumb. Extra weight? Can you imagine a sprinter putting on 5lb ankle weights? As dumb as that sounds

I want to see who the fastest horse is not the fastest carrying extra weight.

Races wouldnt fill. You would have walkovers. Thats where its just one horse, no betting, and all they do is leave the gate and run around the track and as long as the jockey doesnt fall off, they are awarded the purse money.

I am more a harness guy from living in the midwest. One factor I have heard from a sharp harness gambler is to play for and against a driver chage when a real overweight driver is involved. His reasoning made sense as he knew most of the drivers at the meets and felt the added weight would naturally not help a horse so he used that info to get some value from time. Watched it do it and talk about it for year as in harness racing you will the occasional 250 driver. Always thought harness racing was odd not talking about this even a little bit.
