One word of caution. WEATHER. It may be wet on Saturday. Also, for you first timers at Del Mar, it is not cheap. Not by any means. Bring lots of money to spend for food and booze at the track and in the area for meals.

Another hint about the track. Del Mar is a "slow" track. It will be even slower for the Breeders Cup because of the time of year. Lots of moisture in the air, especially at night. That makes the turf course "soft firm" compared to "hard firm". Slower speeds are an advantage for the European horses, especially on the turf. Enjoy your trip.

You keep saying this but several of the importing Euros (this year) overwhelmingly prefer the harder going, and have had BAD starts on the soft stuff across the pond.

My "Best Bet" is Ulysses in the Longines Turf, Race 11. Good Post, good odds (7/2 ML) and gets Frankie Dettori on the grass. I really like him with the Aiden O'Brien entry Highland Reel at 5/1 on the ML. Two Irish horses for a nice exacta box. The draw for the post positions was quite interesting. Del Mar is a track that has a bias for horses breaking from post 7 or 8 in, especially on the sprints. Both of the biggest ML favorites (Unique Bella in the Ladies Sprint, and Bolt de Oro in the Juvenile) break from the 11 hole. Both are listed at 9/5.

Here is another nice little tidbit of information. If you want to win, you had better be up front early. Stalkers have not done well at all lately at Del Mar. Early speed seems to be a key.

Good to Soft in the US is probably Good to Firm for them. Unless they get a deluge this will be a firmish track for Euros
