As it becomes harder and harder to cap and win money at major sports like the NBA, NFL, and MLB, professional bettors are turning to other relatively smaller sporting markets in foreign countries to exploit their weaknesses. Such is the case in my own country, South Korea, where major books like Pinnacle, Betfair, and Bet365 now offer betting lines for Korean men's basketball (KBL), Korean Women's Basketball (WKBL), and the KBO (Korean Baseball Organization).
There are also thousands of Korean betting sites (highly illegal but highly profitable) that have sprung up over the past 3 years in addition to hundreds of Korean sports betting cafes. I have found by betting on both ends of the spectrum that there is often, though not always, a big discrepancy in the lines offered by the Korean side and the offshore books. So, I have often asked myself: Which lines are indicative of the true winning probabilities?? Why does Pinnacle offer Woori Hansae at +10.5 and ten Korean books have Woori Hansae at +5.5 or +5?? (I found out that the other team was resting their starting players because they had clinched 1st place, something I guess the foreign sites didn't care to estimate into their line.)
And I have discovered that by using the Korean lines as a measuring stick, the offshore sites can be quite off. This is due to the fact that in such a small market, the offshore books simply don't care to research whether there is a significant injury or a last-minute shakeup in the lineup and simply can't see through the lens of the Korean bookie. Pinnacle, for example, opens a line it deems appropriate and caps it at an initial betting limit of $140 to $350 for the WKBL and KBL and simply lets the bettors move the line. I have moved the line by a full point in men's basketball simply by betting a few hundred.
I still don't know, however, whether my estimations are completely accurate due to the fact that I haven't really bet long enough to backtest different lines at different odds.
So, I was wondering if there is anyone out there who would interested in handicapping and betting the KBL, WKBL, and KBO, and help me create a program or model that can determine which lines (the Korean lines or foreign Lines are more accurate)? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, HOW TO EXPLOIT THESE LINES. As those of you who have read my other posts can clearly see, I have absolutely no experience in computer programming and can only use Excel for basic adding and subtracting functions. So I also want someone who can teach me the basics of creating these programs, simulations, databases, or models, although we would focus mainly on programs designed to assess the Korean sports market.
In exchange, I can provide:
1. Betting lines and odds for up to 10 Korean sportsbooks on a daily basis.
2. Translations of the official webpages for these sports from Korean into English, especially the sections where they store the stats.
3. Translations of important news reports and articles for these sports from Korean into English.
4. Insight into the Korean public's betting trends. As a member of various Korean sports betting cafes, I can get a general idea of who is betting what and why. Also, unlike offshore sites, Korean bettors can post their betting tickets on the actual betting site to show other bettors exactly how much they are betting and on what team.
I think of this as a long-term committment, not something I can use to make money overnight. PM me if anyone is interested. Thanks.
