Power ranking teams, Is there a easier method?
Every year I go through the same struggle.

I power rank every team. 1st by vs the nation and then by division.
Example Tulsa 68, 91 (I have them winning the west sub division of conf. USA)

I use ten methods. 7 of the 10 will be adjusted throughout the season every Sunday and Monday night. Before List the methods and the end number I was curious as to if anyone knows of any books or publications that has a chapter or two based on this very subject. The object is too obv get tge power numbers to give you the truest line possible in a head to head matchup of two teams on a neutral ground.

    1. Coaching staff. 1-10 rating factoring in wins and losses, Stability of job, experience, big game performance (bowl games, championship, rivalries) staff length of time together.

    2. Home field-road advantages-disadvantages. Some teams simply dominate at home but are terrible ATS every year. This number also 1-10 only changes at the end of the year review. I dont take attendance into my tracking any longer. Many schools perform in front of a smaller crowd.. Temple last year and San Diego st in 2010 both swayed my decision.

    3. Adability- How a team responds to what the opposition represents. Whenever a team gives up 500 yards rushing to Georgia Tech they get a zero for the remainder of the season LOL. Whether it is a lack of understanding, a great deal or a plethera of talent graded 0-10 and the number changes weekly by the end of the season I always have a great understanding especially for totals however the beginning of the year is always puzzling for me in this area.

    4. Strength of schedule- pretty self explanatory. However this does get tweaked weekly on a 1-10 basis. Every year there a few teams that change their number by almost 10 points in one direction or another. Baylor, Texas A&M, Iowa all caused me fits last year every sunday.

    5. QB, RB core. Each starter will get a grade on tougness, intelligence, potential, reliability, awareness, experience, poise, speed, accuracy in the QBs case and a additional 2 points have been handed out for big game player.. Klein of KSU past year is a example. 1-10 (or 12 I guess) reviewed only bi weekly. It tends to get tweaked too much if I review it weekly.

    6. Defensive line & Offensive line- The trenches are where I find experience pays off the most. I hardly pay attention to 3* to 5* recruits unless theyre one of these big boys. I prefer juniors and seniors that have some depth at every position allows me to make my preseason ranking. Every game Ill pour over stats on Monday..thats my D-O line day. Sacks, RYA, Passing yards allowed and gained etc you get the picture. Many people dont realize the MAC is developing great O lines and tge SEC has the best D-Lines.. I love to study all teams but Georgia is who I have as #2 behind MSU this year. Its gonna be a fun year! 1-10 every week review

    7. LB core- 1-10 based on tackles for loss, turnovers, depth, role adaptation, potential, intelligence and playmaking ability. I honestly lacked motivation to study LB stats last year in the beginning of the season with a few teams and it cost me dearly. I dont want the same thing to take place this season.

    8. Wr's, secondary, and TE's- graded individually 1-10 much like the QB's & RBs
WRs like Jeffrey of SC went from a 7 to a 10 last year. McNutt from Iowa went from a 9 to a 5.
Catches, YPG, YPR, TDs etc easy to grade. TE's much more difficult without knowing their exact role prior to the season. CBs are almost the easiest to grade. Tackles, receptions allowed, experience,
INTs, playmaking ability. 1-4 for each group. Id never had a team exceed 10 until last season with Alabama and thy got a 11. I have a had alot of 1's! Lol New mexico

    9. Motivation or Direction. 1-10 visited and tweaked weekly.
What is this team playing for, wheres the program heading, has the coach lost the kids or is he really getting the best of it. Is there a bowl game they want or are they trying to get those recruits some time on the field. This used to be the 2nd reviewed item every week but it normally doesnt become useful until week 5.

    10. Special teams, weather, TV or media exposure.
Also 3 seperate categories rolled into one graded 1-4 i have never had above 10 guess Ill worry about that when the time comes.
California schools play poorly in the cold. Certain SEC teams cant even perform their regular offense in the rain. Etc i use up to 4 yrs back to get the 1-4 number
Tv plays a huge role for some schools. Pittsburg sucks in the spotlight, Colorado as well ATS or SY theyve been terrible. Some teams relish in it Wake F, Cincy, Rutger. Others are so used to it they get a neutral 2 notre dame. There has been minor arguements between my circle that I overthink this stuff lol.
Special teams- kickers and punters 1-4 tweaked weekly. KRs and PRs the same

Suggestions on how to make my work week a little lighter, how to make a more accurate number, things I might be putting too much emphasis on or possibly not enough on Id greatly aprexiate any feedback.
Thanks for your time and help, MILK
